‘Mafia Wars 2’ Gets Whacked By Zynga On December 30
Zynga’s Facebook game Mafia Wars 2 will not longer be available to users as of December 30, according to Kotaku.
Since people were too busy battling gangsters in Zynga’s original Mafia Wars, very few people made the jump to the sequel. Although the follow-up gave players more to do, it would seem they were still far more interested in what the game’s predecessor had to offer.
Unfortunately, those who were hoping to ring in the New Year by getting caught up on Mafia Wars 2 will be in for a huge disappointment. Since the game currently sports around 280,000 players, chances are the outcry over the game’s cancellation won’t be too loud.
Games.com reports Zynga is offering players a “compensation package” that can be used with the company’s more successful titles. Should gamers choose to accept to the deal, they can have the package sent to CastleVille, ChefVille, FarmVille 2, Mafia Wars, or YoVille.
In order to help spread the news around, Zynga issued a statement to any Mafia Wars 2 players who may not be aware of the game’s impending doom.
The announcement reads as follows:
“Dear Mafia Wars 2 player,
“Thank you very much for supporting Mafia Wars 2 and for being a loyal player! We’re sorry to inform you that Mafia Wars 2 on Facebook will be shutting down on December 30, 2012.
“Zynga is committed to helping Mafia Wars 2 players find a new place to play. As a thank you for your participation, we would like to offer you a one-time, complimentary bonus package in one of either ‘CastleVille,’ ‘ChefVille,’ ‘FarmVille 2,’ ‘Mafia Wars,’ or ‘YoVille.’ You can start the process by clicking the Redeem button in game. Please note that this offer will be valid only until December 30, 2012.
“Thank you for your time in Mafia Wars 2. We look forward to seeing you again in other Zynga games.
“Sincerely,
“The Mafia Wars 2 Team”
