Samantha Bee Praises Ann Coulter For Standing Up To Trump

Heavily partisan commentators Samantha Bee and Ann Coulter occupy similar realms on their respective sides of the political spectrum. Both maintain a no-holds-barred posture before the current events of the day, espousing views that amass hoards of like-minded followers and incensed detractors alike.

Yet despite the clashing opinions of the two women, Samantha and Ann do appear to have come together on one thing: criticism of the Donald Trump presidency. Coulter has been making waves in the conservative world for a series of negative comments about Trump in both blog posts and interviews, a trend that is no doubt gratifying to those, like Bee, who have hounded the president from the days of his nascent candidacy.

On Sunday, Ann ramped up her comments in an interview with the Daily Caller that was widely reported on by both conservative and liberal outlets. Coulter revealed that she was no longer confident that Trump would deliver on the hard-line promises he had made during his campaign. She remarked that, while she still wholeheartedly supports the platform of candidate Trump, her faith is low that he will realize these goals during his presidency.

“If he doesn’t keep his promises I’m out. This is why we voted for him. I think everyone who voted for him knew his personality was grotesque, it was the issues… I don’t apologize for supporting Trump. He said all the right things and nobody else would even say it.”

Outside of a general disgust with his lack of “winning,” Ann also specifically criticized the much-maligned roles of Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, the latter of whom was made a senior advisor to the president. Coulter called the move “fascist.”

“I have from the beginning been opposed to Trump hiring any of his relatives. Americans don’t like that, I don’t like that. That’s the one fascist thing he’s done. Hiring his kids.”

Of course, hearing former Trump proponents renege has liberal critics salivating. Samantha Bee tirelessly mocked Trump during the 2016 election season of her show Full Frontal, and she was pleased to see that Ann was coming around to her view, reported Page Six.

“She’s been wrong about a lot of things. I think it’s nice to have a little self-awareness every once in a while. Good for her!”

Still, it’s unlikely that Samantha and Ann will be getting any chummier. On Wednesday, Coulter published a blog post confessing that she found it impossible to fully turn her back on Trump due to her repulsion about the way coverage of his presidency is handled in the media.

“Every time I try to be mad at Trump, the media reel me back in by launching some ridiculous, unprovoked attack. This time, it’s the fake news story about Trump ‘leaking’ classified information to the Russkies. The president can’t ‘leak’ classified information: It’s his to declassify.”

Following the surprise result of the 2016 presidential elections, divisive political commentators like Samantha Bee and Ann Coulter have come into the crosshairs of their peers in the media. Some claim that the kind of insulting rhetoric often used toward the opposing side has caused a larger disconnect, and fueled more hatred between the two polarized sides of American politics. Appearing with Jake Tapper on CNN, Bee denied that she had any significant impact on the growing divide.

“Is there a smug liberal problem? I’m, I guess, you know, I don’t, I don’t think there is. I do the show for me and people like me and I don’t really care how the rest of the world sees it, quite frankly…We make a show for ourselves.”
