‘DWTS’ Contestant Normani Kordei Injured: Can Val Chmerkovskiy’s ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Partner Perform?
Fifth Harmony singer Normani Kordei has been a frontrunner since the first day of Dancing with the Stars Season 24, but it looks like she is now facing an additional obstacle when it comes to winning the mirror-ball trophy with partner Val Chmerkovskiy. Normani and Val are working hard to be ready for Monday’s finale, and she just suffered an injury during rehearsals.
TMZ shares the video and the scoop available so far about DWTS star Normani Kordei’s injury. It seems that as Normani and Val were practicing for Monday’s Dancing with the Stars finale, Chmerkovskiy had her try a split jump, and she landed on her ankle wrong. Kordei immediately pulled her foot up and clung to her partner for a few moments, unable to put any weight on her ankle.
Val and Normani stopped rehearsals and got some ice onto Kordei’s ankle, but it doesn’t sound as if she necessarily needed any additional medical attention. An ankle injury certainly isn’t what a DWTS competitor wants to experience right before the final dances of the competition, but Fifth Harmony fans have no doubt that she will successfully push through this current challenge. Some would bet, however, that the split jump she was practicing with Val will be yanked from that Dancing with the Stars routine.

So far, Kordei hasn’t referenced the ankle injury on her social media pages, and neither has Chmerkovskiy. This DWTS contestant is, however, clearly very excited about being in the Season 24 Dancing with the Stars finale, and her Fifth Harmony fans are dying to see what Normani and Val will put together for their last finale performances.
This isn’t the first injury that Normani has experienced this spring on Dancing with the Stars. Just a couple of weeks ago, as Us Weekly detailed, Kordei was battling issues with strains in her hip and upper back. She was dancing through a torn ligament, and doctors were cautioning her to be careful with how hard she kept pushing. Despite those issues, Normani and Val pulled off a perfect score that week, and they are definitely the frontrunners to win the mirror-ball trophy.

The Season 24 DWTS finale is shaping up to be an intense one with the Dancing with the Stars final three, including pairs David Ross and Lindsay Arnold, as well as Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater alongside Normani and Val. Every one of these pairs brings something electric to the dance floor, as well as dedicated fan bases anxious to see their favorite win, so nothing is guaranteed at this point.
Chmerkovskiy teased via ET Online that the freestyle dance he is designing for Kordei is aiming to celebrate her passion and who she is as a person. Val also wants to showcase the gratitude that Normani’s had for this opportunity on Dancing With the Stars, and the expectations will be sky-high when it comes to this finale routine.
Normani and Val, along with Rashad and Emma, and David and Lindsay, will be challenged with doing multiple routines over the course of the two-night finale airing on ABC on Monday and Tuesday nights. Kordei and Chmerkovskiy may be the frontrunners as far as Fifth Harmony fans are concerned, but they will be expected to pull out all of the stops with their dances, and there is no doubt that the other two pairs will bring it as well.
Will Normani Kordei’s injury hold her back in this upcoming DWTS finale? Check out Dancing with the Stars on May 22 and 23 to see what Val Chmerkovskiy puts together for his last dances with his partner in Season 24. Will these two walk away with the big win and the mirror-ball trophy?
