Ellen Degeneres and wife Portia de Rossi are facing rumors of an impending split nearly nine years after tying the knot.
According to a new report, Degeneres' relationship with the actress is hanging by a thread, and despite the couple's alleged attempts at saving their marriage through therapy, they have reportedly continued to struggle.
"They've been trying really hard to keep their marriage together, but it seems like time is running out," an insider close to the couple revealed to Life & Style magazine on May 17. "They're just always at each other's throats."
Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi are even said to be arguing about how they should celebrate their upcoming anniversary. As the insider revealed, the talk show host wants to make a big deal of the milestone while her wife prefers to keep things low-key as they reportedly continue to work on their relationship.
"[Ellen Degeneres] wants to plan an elaborate anniversary and Portia just wants her to concentrate on fixing their marriage," the insider said. "She feels like Ellen puts a Band-Aid on their problems."
Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi tied the knot on August 16, 2008, after about four years of dating. The wedding took place at the couple's home in Beverly Hills, California, which they later sold to Ryan Seacrest.
As Life & Style pointed out, Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi's recent outing at Craig's restaurant in West Hollywood appeared to show signs of trouble between the couple.
"[Ellen Degeneres] seemed miserable and Portia just looked sad," one patron told the magazine, while a staffer at the restaurant added, "'Happy' isn't the first word I would use to describe them."
Another source said that in addition to their alleged private spats, Ellen Degeneres and Portia de Rossi have also been arguing in front of Degeneres' employees on the set of her daytime talk show, The Ellen Degeneres Show.
"[Ellen Degeneres] hates that. She never wants people at work to know about her personal problems," the source said. "It was a huge wake-up call for her."
Following the alleged wake-up call, Ellen Degeneres reportedly began spending quality time with her wife as they continued to give one another space during the workday. However, as the magazine's insider revealed, their new outlook doesn't seem to have helped.
"Portia and I constantly say to each other, 'We are so lucky,'" she said at the time. "Sometimes it's lying in bed at night before I go to sleep, and I just say thank you to whatever, whoever is out there," she says. "I've gotten to a place where I really am just settled. Really. I know that I'm not going anywhere. She's not going anywhere. I'm not saying the relationship took a while; I'm saying in my life, it took a while to find this."
"Our priorities are each other too," she added. "If we had kids, then I'm sure they would be, but we are. And that's important."
