‘Fixer Upper’ Stars Chip And Joanna Gaines Refuse To Film ‘Property Brothers’: Inside Their HGTV Feud

It looks like a Fixer Upper and Property Brothers crossover might not happen after all. Chip and Joanna Gaines are refusing to work with their HGTV counterparts, fueling more rumors of an ongoing network feud. Why won’t Chip and Joanna join forces with Property Brothers?

According to Radar Online, Property Brothers stars Johnathan and Drew Scott asked Chip and Joanna if they would film an episode together in the near future. With their shows only hours apart – Fixer Upper is based in Waco, Texas, while Property Brothers is out of Galveston – a crossover made sense. Unfortunately, Chip and Joanna declined the invitation.

“No we’re not jealous of them,” Drew assured fans. “They are phenomenally successful, the audience loves them and our fans have been asking for us to do something together.”

According to E! News, Fixer Upper is one of HGTV’s most profitable renovation shows. Between Chip’s goofy charm and Joanna’s eye for design, Fixer Upper is easily the network’s most popular show. The series is even getting ready for a spinoff and fans can expect more in the near future.

Property Brothers, on the other hand, has a very distinct fan base. Drew and Johnathan are quickly becoming the face of HGTV and have a strong following on social media, but their show isn’t as popular as Fixer Upper. That said, the Scotts have more experience than Chip and Joanna in renovating houses and have been in the real estate business for 32 years.

Considering all their strengths, it seems like a crossover would be a huge hit for HGTV. So why won’t Chip and Joanna do a show with Johnathan and Drew? During an interview with Starcasm, the brothers revealed that their busy schedules are the real reason why the two shows haven’t joined forces.

Indeed, both series have gotten busier over the past two years. Although Johnathan and Drew’s schedule eased up a bit last season, things got even more hectic for Chip and Joanna, who are currently filming a spinoff and Season 5 of Fixer Upper. It isn’t clear if the two shows will ever find the time for a crossover, but it sounds like it could still happen.

Of course, there may be another reason behind Chip and Joanna’s refusal to film with Property Brothers. According to Chron, the brothers recently admitted that they sometimes re-shoot scenes in order to build up the drama. In an interview with the New York Times, Johnathan and Drew revealed that their show requires multiple shots and edits to capture the perfect moment.

“At the end of the day, it has to be interesting television,” Drew admitted. “But when we find a load-bearing wall, we are really finding a load-bearing wall.”

The comments came while the pair was filming a special installment of Brother vs. Brother. The series pits two siblings against each other and gives them a $600,000 budget. The proceeds from the show go directly to charity.

For most fans, the admission that some scenes are staged don’t really matter in the long run. After all, the best part of these home renovation shows is watching the big reveal and seeing how they transform a run-down space into a dream home.

As far as Fixer Upper is concerned, Chip and Joanna have not commented on the possibility of them teaming up with Property Brothers. If their busy schedule is the reason why they don’t do a crossover, then it might be a while before they team up on HGTV.

New episodes of Property Brothers air weekday nights on HGTV while Season 5 of Fixer Upper is expected to premiere later this year.
