New Xbox Console May Launch In November 2013
Microsoft will reportedly unveil the new Xbox console in November of 2013, according to Kotaku.
Various reports have suggested that the next machine in the Xbox lineage will likely find its way onto retail shelves in time for the 2013 holidays. Although a particular time frame hasn’t been revealed, sources explain that Microsoft is currently eyeing a November launch date.
Bloomberg reports that a group of anonymous people with insider knowledge of Microsoft’s master plans were responsible for spreading the word about the new Xbox launch date. These sources also explained that the company isn’t sure if it will debut the machine at E3 in June or at a separate event.
If these reports are to be believed, then it would appear that the next generation console war is starting to heat up. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime explained that the recently released Wii U managed to move 400,000 units during its first week at retail. Comparatively, the company also sold 300,000 Wiis during the same period of time.
One individual who should be happy about the new Xbox console is Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. The game industry veteran explained during a recent interview with Polygon that long gaps between generations has a negative effect on the gaming business.
“You know, in the industry, we were used to changing machines every five years,” Guillemot explained. “This time we are in the seventh year of the 360. We need new consoles and at the end of the cycle generally the market goes down because there are less new IPs, new properties, so that damaged the industry a little bit.”
Although the Xbox 360 continues to sell rather well, it’s not surprising that Microsoft is starting to look towards the future. However, the company has yet to confirm any of these rumors as of this writing.
