‘Girl Meets World’ Star Danielle Fishel Speaks Out About Show’s Return
Girl Meets World will be its own show, not simply a retread of the original Boy Meets World, the show’s star told fans on Monday.
Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga on the original show and is returning along with co-star Ben Savage for Girl Meets World, wrote a note to fans on Tumblr talking about the new show. She said she does not know yet which former cast members could be returning other than herself and Savage, but said the excitement for the show is building rapidly.
Fishel wrote:
“When the news leaked that GMW was in the making, literally days after I first heard about the project myself, Michael Jacobs and I had a conversation and we talked about how we were both so blown away by the reactions from all of you. We felt honored. We felt nostalgic. We felt touched by the excitement in your comments, tweets, Tumblr, and Facebook posts. But most of all, we felt inspired. We felt inspired to bring these characters back to life and to tell you more of their stories.”
Fishel added, “GMW is a new show. It isn’t BMW brought back to life but in current day.”
There could be some familiar faces on Girl Meets World. William Russ, who played Cory’s father Alan, and Anthony Tyler Quinn, who played teacher Mr. Turner, have both expressed interest in coming back.
“I’m really excited [Girls Meets World] is getting so much buzz,” Quinn said.
Though details about the show are still emerging, Disney has confirmed that Girl Meets World will center on Cory (Savage) and Topanga’s (Fishel) teenage daughter Riley, The Huffington Post noted. Cory will play a history teacher.
