Rihanna Stuns Millions With Drenched ‘Diamonds’ X Factor Performance, Tweets Shirtless Picture
Rihanna stunned millions in the UK on Sunday when she delivered a flawless performance of her hit single “Diamonds” on the X Factor results show.
The Barbadian singer took to the stage in a floor length, figure-hugging, black lace dress to belt out the emotive, Sia Furler-written slow-tempo.
At the end of the song, water poured from the ceiling drenching the 24-year-old. Back-lit by stage lights and in a clear nod to the lyrics, the water imitated the effect of falling diamonds.
Following her performance, Rihanna tweeted a message to her 26.7 million followers, saying:
“I miss my pool!! This cold ass weather out here! I’m not made for dis! (sic).”
Released as a cut off her Unapologetic album on September 30, “Diamonds” debuted at number one in the UK album chart, beating out British boy band One Direction for the top spot.
“Diamonds” is also currently number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 and Hip Hop and R&B charts and number eight in the Pop category.
One of the most anticipated albums of the year — Unapologetic — released on November 19 is Rihanna’s seventh album and promises to be her most progressive yet.
After recently completing a somewhat controversial “777 Tour” on November 22 — during which the songstress performed in seven international cities in a week accompanied by 150 journalists, fans, and label reps on a plane — the singer was forced to apologize following complaints about lack of face-time and deprived travelling conditions.
Countless tweets sent by those journalists aboard the plane have already entered the stuff of legend. Although, in mitigation, Rihanna’s apology did speak of the necessity of staying virus free and preserving her voice while touring.
Following her X Factor performance, the singer tweeted a shirtless picture of herself from a London hotel room. The risque image was sent with a one line message that simply read, “#LondonNightLife.”
Coming so soon after Chris Brown’s Twitter argument with comedy writer Jenny Johnson — which led to him deleting his account — and the similarly shirtless picture of Brown that Rihanna tweeted last week, more eyebrows will likely be raised about her relationship with Brown.
Social media shenanigans aside, however, everyone’s favorite good girl gone bad remains one of the most successful and surprising artists in the industry today. The X Factor audience certainly thought so.
