‘West Wing’ Star Allison Janney Loses Palm Springs Home To Foreclosure
Palm Springs, CA — Allison Janney is the latest celebrity to fall on hard times in today’s real estate market.
A Palm Springs property that the former West Wing actress co-owned with longtime friend Gregg Rapp has gone into foreclosure and is being marketed by the bank that holds the mortgage for $2,250,000.
Janney and Rapp bought the property at the height of the real estate market for $3,950,000 in 2006.
It is unclear whether the actress ever occupied the home or if it was just intended as an investment property. The two friends put the house up for sale in March 2010 for $5.5 million. They dropped the price to $4,495,000 seven months later. By 2011, it was down to $3,995,000.
Their lender took over the property in October.
The 6,657 square foot home has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. It sits just about Palm Springs and has a view of the town from almost every room.
The house was previously owned by the late William Holden, who starred in blockbuster films such as Sunset Boulevard and The Towering Inferno. Holden died in 1981 after he bled out from hitting his head on a bedside table. His body was found four days later.
Allison Janney is now living back in Los Angeles in a house she bought in 2011 for $799,000. She is best known for her role as C.J. Gregg on The West Wing, which also starred Martin Sheen and Rob Lowe.
She has also appeared in American Beauty, 10 Things I Hate About You, and The Hours. She also voiced a starfish named Peach in Finding Nemo.
