‘Gangnam Style’ Becomes Most Watched YouTube Video Of All Time [Video]
Sorry, Justin Bieber, but Psy has officially broken your YouTube record.
The South Korean rapper responsible for the highly contagious hit, “Gangnam Style,” stole the title of most-watched YouTube video of all time away from Bieber’s video for “Baby.”
The video has earned over 805,000,000 views since it was first posted in July. “Baby” has earned 803,732,000 since it was released in February 2010.
The video has also become the most liked video on YouTube, with 5.3 million likes to a paltry 323,000 dislikes. “Baby,” on the other hand, has 1.4 million likes and 3.1 million dislikes.
Psy was understandably excited about the news. He tweeted Saturday, “?#GangnamStyle just became the most watched video ?@YouTube!! ?#History.”
The video has spawned countless covers and performances in the four months since its release. Psy even performed the dance with Madonna at her New York City concert, and with MC Hammer at the 2012 American Music Awards.
In perhaps a cruel twist of fate for “the Biebs,” he and the South Korean phenom became label mates in September when the 34-year-old signed to Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy records. However, the 18-year-old can take comfort in the fact that, at least for the time being, he has more Twitter followers than Psy: 30.6 million versus 1.3 million.
“Gangnam Style” peaked at No. 2 on the US Hot 100, and spent seven weeks at the runner-up spot to Maroon 5’s “One More Night.” Psy was able to hit the top of Billboard’s Social 50 in late August, however, due to the success of the viral video.
Congratulations to Psy on his success.
