Cuba Blames U.S. for Lack of Widespread Internet Connectivity
Cuba is open to the possibility of loosening Internet restrictions just like what it did for ownership of mobile phones and home computers, the AP reports.
Raul Castro’s government is not afraid of Cubans connecting from their homes, the report added. They placed the blame on the U.S. government for the embargo that prevents the country from getting Internet access through underwater cables.
The few who can access, mostly government employees and academics, get their Internet fix from less reliable satellite connections from Italy and Canada. For others who can afford, there is always the dial-up black market.
