Zoe Saldana, Anna Kendrick To Announce 2013 Spirit Awards Nominees
Zoe Saldana, Anna Kendrick, and Common have been tapped to announce the 2013 Spirit Awards nominees, accoding to The Hollywood Reporter.
Sean McManus and Josh Welsh, co-presidents of Film Independent, are understandably excited to have these three talented individuals take part in the ceremony.
“Anna, Zoe, and Common have become an integral part of the Film Independent family and we are honored to have them join us for this big moment to announce and celebrate the best independent artists of the year,” McManus explained.
The group will announce the 2013 Spirit Awards nominees at a press conference on November 27 at The W Hollywood. The winners will be announced on February 23 at the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards. The taped event will air on IFC later that evening.
According to Ace Showbiz, this isn’t the first time Zoe Saldana has been asked to announce the nominees for Film Independent. Kendrick also is no stranger to the Spirit Awards; the actress has received two nominations over the past few years.
Among the categories at the Spirit Awards are Best Feature, Best First Feature, Best First Screenplay, Best Director, Best Screenplay, John Cassavetes Award, Best Male Lead, Best Female Lead, Best Supporting Male, Best Supporting Female, Best Cinematography, Best International Film, Best Documentary, and the Robert Altman Award.
When Saldana isn’t busy announcing potential award winners, the actress is staying busy with a number of high-profile projects. In addition to reprising her role as Nyota Uhura in the upcoming sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, Saldana was recently cast as Nina Simone in the upcoming biopic Nina.
As The Inquisitr previously reported, the Avatar alum’s casting in the drama has caused a fair amount of controversy. Singer India Arie was definitely not a fan of Saldana’s casting in Nina.
“Yes there should be a movie made, and YES they should have chosen someone who LOOKS like Nina Simone, ESPECIALLY since her RACE played such a PIVOTAL role in WHO, WHAT and WHY, she was,” she wrote on Simone’s official website.
The singer added, “THAT ASIDE for a second, this just looks WEIRD, it looks like a person in Black(er) face with a fake nose … REALLY?!!!!”
