‘Beverly Hills Cop’ TV Series: Brandon T. Jackson Slated To Star

The Beverly Hills Cop TV series has cast actor Brandon T. Jackson in the lead role, according to the folks at Vulture.

Jackson, who has starred in such memorable motion pictures as Tropic Thunder, Fast & Furious, and Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, will tackle the lead role of Aaron Foley.

The series will follow the adventures of Axel Foley’s as he takes down the “criminal elements of the rich and famous, while simultaneously trying to escape the shadow of his larger than life father.” Series producers are reportedly describing the Beverly Hills Cop TV series as a “buddy cop show.”

According to Coming Soon, the proposed series was announced back in September. Eddie Murphy is working with The Shield creator Shawn Ryan to bring the concept to life. Sony Pictures Television will handle distribution of the show.

Murphy announced that he would reprise his role as Axel Foley in the series. However, the legendary comedian said he would not star in the televised version of Beverly Hills Cop.

“Axel is the chief of police now in Detroit,” Murphy said. “I’d do the pilot, show up here and there.”

Released in 1984, director Martin Brest’s Beverly Hills Cop followed the adventures of a Detroit cop whose murder investigation leads him to California. The film was a huge success, and transformed Murphy into a box office sensation. Beverly Hills Cop II was released three years later.

The actor was last seen in director Brian Robbins’ comedy A Thousand Words. According to Internet Movie Database, Murphy will lend his voice to the upcoming big screen adaptation of Hong Kong Phooey. He’s also listed as being attached to the rumored Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito comedy Triplets.
