WWE News: Paige Movie In The Works As She Trains For WWE Return
In what has to be seen as surprising news considering their rocky relationship, a WWE-produced Paige movie is in the works with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson working as a producer. What Culture reported that the Paige movie would follow her family and their life in professional wrestling. It is based on the Channel 4 UK documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family.
Stephen Merchant (The Office) will direct the Paige movie, and there are rumors that The Rock will appear in the movie as well in a cameo role. Florence Pugh, who stars in the UK movie The Falling, will star as Paige.
“The film follows the story of reformed gangster and former wrestler Ricky, his wife Julia, daughter Saraya (Paige) and son Zak who make a living performing in tiny venues across the country…Saraya and Zak are about to learn that becoming a WWE Superstar demands more than they ever imagined possible as athletes and siblings. Wrestling has always kept this family together — but now it could tear them apart.”
Meanwhile, Paige just went to Twitter today to reveal that she is currently training with her fiance Alberto Del Rio. According to her tweet, Alberto Del Rio is training for a movie role while she is training for her WWE return.
The idea for the Paige movie is a good one and is based on a critically acclaimed documentary. Merchant said that he never thought he would want to make a movie based in the world of professional wrestling, but after watching the documentary he realized it was much more than wrestling and was a story of family and turmoil.
When it comes to turmoil, the life of Paige has seen nothing but turmoil over the past year. As The Inquisitr previously reported, the WWE suspended Paige back in August, along with Alberto Del Rio, Eva Marie, and Roman Reigns, all for failing drug tests.
The Paige WWE suspension was controversial because Paige said that she didn’t fail the drug test but was out of state when they called her in, and she couldn’t get back in time to take it. She was out with an injury when she failed the drug test. Her father then ripped into the WWE for not taking care of his injured daughter.
The WWE suspended Paige a second time in October for a second failed drug test. According to Paige’s father, she was suspended the second time for taking doctor prescribed drugs for her pain. This time her father put her on a plane and brought her home.
Paige then had her neck examined by her doctors who declared that she needed surgery to repair a herniated disc in her neck that has been causing neck and upper body pain. According to reports, the WWE did not want her to get surgery, and their doctors claimed she didn’t need it.
Alberto Del Rio, who received his release from the WWE after the first suspensions, said that she needed it and posted what he alleged was a doctor’s explanation of what was wrong with Paige’s neck. It was a mess, and it was unclear what the truth was.

Paige has returned to the WWE a couple of times for progress reports on her recovery, and there are still plans for her to return to television when she is healthy. She is wrapped up under a long-term contract so she can’t go anywhere. The new Paige movie the WWE is producing makes it look like they aren’t letting go anytime soon either.
The WWE movie also comes with dangers. If Paige fails a third drug test, the WWE policy requires that they terminate her contract.
