‘Grand Theft Auto V’ Details Emerge Following ‘Game Informer’ Reveal
A slew of new details regarding Grand Theft Auto V have emerged online following Game Informer’s big reveal yesterday afternoon.
According to IGN, the next installment in Rockstar’s popular open world game will feature three protagonists that players can switch between with the press of a button. This will essentially allow Rockstar to tell the same story from three different perspectives.
Over the course of the adventure, players will control the criminally-minded actions of three protagonists: Michael, Trevor and Franklin. All of the guys possess shady backgrounds and different skill sets which will prove useful over the course of the adventure.
For those gamers who love exploring open world titles, Grand Theft Auto V will feature Rockstar’s biggest setting to-date. The company explained that the area players can explore is bigger than Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas combined. Gamers will also be able to explore underwater sections of the city.
GTA V will also take a page from the Red Dead Redemption random encounter system. Over the course of the game, players will have the opportunity to catch muggers, rob cash vans, and pick up hitchhikers. It certainly sounds like fans won’t get too bored during their return to Los Santos.
Trusted Reviews explains that Grand Theft Auto V will feature the most vehicles than any other installment in the franchise. This means prospective buyers will be able to run over pedestrians and stage epic crashes using more automobiles than ever before.
Having numerous vehicles at your disposable will certainly come in handy over the course of your journeys. Each character has their own social lives that will no doubt require some management on the player’s part. In order to keep track of everything that’s going on, Rockstar said that each character will be given a cell phone. Here’s hoping it’s more Saints Row 3 than Grand Theft Auto IV.
Speaking of cars, the company explained the driving mechanics have been overhauled for the game. Instead of becoming an all-out arcade racer, developers stated the vehicles have more weight and physics to them. Again, those who enjoy turning Grand Theft Auto into their own personal wreckage yard will surely find much to do in the city.
When you’re tired of tooling around Los Santos in cars, trucks, helicopters, planes, and ATVs, the three protagonists can engage in a number of extracurricular activities. Yoga, jet skiing, base jumping, tennis, and golf are just some of the things players can do over the course of Grand Theft Auto V.
Additionally, each character will have their own unique set of hobbies and interests. However, very details regarding this feature were announced, as Rockstar is currently figuring out the specifics of this very interesting feature. Characters will also be able to purchase and wear different outfits.
Rockstar stopped short of revealing a specific release date, though it’s being reported the game will be available in stores next spring. However, there’s a chance next week’s trailer could come packaged with a month and day, though holding one’s breath isn’t recommended.
Since some analysts theorized the game could miss out on a first quarter release, the fact that Rockstar has confirmed a Spring 2013 street date is definitely good news for fans.
“By no means am I convinced that it will miss March, but there are a couple of factors to consider. One, we haven’t heard anything definitive from the company on release timing,” Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian explained. “Second, retailers typically would want 4-6 months lead time to prepare for a launch as large as GTA, and from [what] I understand they haven’t heard anything. Third, Rockstar rightly prioritizes game quality over release date, and this dynamic could shift timing.”
The company’s official press release reads as follows:
“Developed by series creator Rockstar North, Grand Theft Auto V heads to the city of Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches in the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.
A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer, Grand Theft Auto V focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present day Southern California.”
The next trailer for Grand Theft Auto V will hit the internet on November 14. Are you looking forward to Rockstar’s next open world epic?
