Brooke Burke has received a thyroid cancer diagnosis, the Dancing With The Stars co-host announced on Thursday.
Using a YouTube video to announce the cancer diagnosis to fans, Brooke Burke said that her thyroid cancer is treatable and she is looking at having surgery, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“I’m going to have a have a nice big scar right here across my neck,” the mother of four says on the video as she makes a mark on her neck to show where the surgery would take place. “And I don’t get to just walk around and pretend like nothing happened or not follow up or not share it because it’s going to be pretty much dead center.”
This is not Brooke Burke’s first thyroid illness. She has been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, which she told Prevention means her thyroid doesn’t function.
Brooke Burke’s thyroid cancer diagnosis wasn’t a complete surprise to fans. In July she told ModernMom.com that she had a biopsy, though she never followed up with the results. Burke noted that she had put off an ultrasound for many months, but was convinced otherwise when she talked with a friend who also had thyroid cancer.
“And why the hell didn’t I check this eight months ago when my internist told me to?,” she wrote back in July. “Too busy, I guess, which today feels like an irresponsible, stupid and lame excuse.”
But now Burke’s diagnosis will not get her down.
“Here’s the way I see it,” Brooke Burke said of her thyroid cancer diagnosis. “I’m just going to make a positive out of this negative thing and I’m going to be a really good patient and I’m going to do everything that i need to do, and I’ve booked my surgery.”
