Ariel Winter Abuse Allegations: ‘Modern Family’ Star Removed From Home

TMZ reports that Modern Family star Ariel Winter has been removed from her home amid allegations of emotional and physical abuse by her mother.

Court sources told TMZ that after an initial hearing on October 3, judges determined that the 14-year-old was being abused by her mother, Chrisoula Workman. The court then granted temporary custody to Winter’s older sister, Shanelle Workman, but she will not have access to her earnings. The next hearing is set for November 20.

TMZ also reported that Chrisoula Workman is currently ordered to stay 100 yards away from her daughter.

Court records describe Winter’s abuse as consisting of name-calling and slapping.

Thirty-four-year-old Shanelle Workman was also removed from her mother’s home nearly 20 years ago amid similar abuse allegations. She was in foster care for two years, and never returned to the custody of her mother.

We reported earlier that Winter was seeking legal emancipation from her parents because they wanted her to stop dating 17-year-old A.N.T. Farm actor Cameron Palatas, whom she’d been seeing for six months. Apparently, that report was false and claims that Winter wanted to divorce her parents have gone unfounded so far.

Winter, who plays Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, has been acting since she was six years old. She voices Princess Sofia in Disney’s Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess, and appeared in several episodes of ER in 2009.

Modern Family is in its fourth season and took home the Emmy for best comedy earlier this year.

Ariel Winter has not yet spoken out about the abuse.
