Jerry Jones was furious last night. Not only was the NFL owner embarrassed by his team’s fifth loss of the season but Jones also got locked out of the Dallas Cowboys’ locker room.
Matt Barrie of NBC5 in Dallas-Fort Worth wrote on Twitter last night:
“Jerry Jones just pounded locker room door because no one would let him in. It’s the angriest I’ve seen him all year … In a nutshell: Jerry Jones had more highlights last night than his team.”
The Washington Post notes that Jones was eventually let into the locker room. The team swears that the door was locked by accident.
But getting locked out of the locker room wasn’t the only highlight of Jones’ night. The Cowboys owner also had to face some tough questions by Bob Costas.
Costas asked Jones, who is also the teams General Manager, if Jones the owner has considered giving Jones the GM the boot after such a poor performance this season.
Jones said:
“I’ve always worked for myself and you can’t do that. You basically have to straighten that guy out in the mirror when you work for yourself. But certainly, if I’d had the discretion, I’ve done it with coaches and certainly I would have changed a general manager.”
So if Jones won’t fire himself, what about firing the coach? Jones distanced himself from the rumor that Sean Payton could soon find his way to Dallas by saying that he had tremendous confidence in Jason Garrett.
Jones said:
“I have a lot of faith in Jason. Jason’s future is ahead of him. I know how hard he works. I like his philosophy, so I’ve got a lot of confidence, a lot of faith. One of the brightest spots I see is our head coaching and our coaching in the future.”
Are you surprised that Jerry Jones got locked out of the locker room last night?
