George Bush’s Twin Daughters Pen Passionate Letter To Sasha, Malia Obama: Watched Them ‘Grow From Girls To Impressive Young Women With Grace’
Jenna Welch Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush — just as they did when their father, George W. Bush, left the White House — penned a passionate letter of encouragement to the Obama sisters, Sasha and Malia. Again, Bush’s twin daughters showed class in non-partisan style at a time when the nation is draped in uncertainty. Like they did eight years ago, Jenna and Barbara wished nothing but the best for Malia and Sasha, citing a People report.
Laura and George Bush’s fraternal twin daughters are 35-years-old today. They were 19 when Bush was sworn in at his first term inauguration. They recalled how daunting and fun it was to be part of the reverence the White House exudes and have a father who was commander-in-chief, citing an Express report.

Their first experience at the White House was as first granddaughters when George H.W. Bush arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. As they wrote in their first letter, it was challenging to figure out the importance of the role. As little girls, they didn’t “understand the gravity of the position” the elder Bush held at the time. In their first letter, they simply appealed for the girls to enjoy every moment.
“Slide down the bannister of the solarium, have swimming parties and play Sardines on the White House lawn. Have fun and enjoy your childhood in such a magical place to live and play,” they suggested.
“When your dad throws out the first pitch for the Yankees (baseball team), go to the game. In fact, go to anything and everything you possibly can. Four years goes by so fast, so absorb it all, enjoy it all!”
Again, Jenna and Barbara Bush are cheering Malia and Sasha on as they enter the next phases in their lives, this time as young women. The Bush twins appeared on a segment of Friday’s Today to read their letter of farewell to the president and first lady’s daughters. Jenna broke down in tears as she read the touching letter.
“Malia and Sasha, eight years ago, on a cold November day, we greeted you on the steps of the White House. We saw both the light and wariness in your eyes as you gazed at your new home. We left our jobs in Baltimore and New York early and traveled to Washington to show you around. To show you the Lincoln Bedroom, and the bedrooms that were once ours, to introduce you to all the people—the florists, the grounds-keepers and the butlers—who dedicate themselves to making this historic house a home. The four of us wandered the majestic halls of the house you had no choice but to move in to. When you slid down the banister of the solarium, just as we had done as 8-year-olds and again as 20-year-olds chasing our youth, your joy and laughter were contagious.”
The letter went on to recall their first meeting, when the Obama sisters beamed with enthusiasm at their new “home,” just as the Bush daughters did years ago. The letter mentioned how the girls met state leaders, attended a host of events, navigated through school, listened to their father’s jokes (as they did), and pardoned eight lucky turkeys while trying to enjoy their time as children.

Jenna Bush Hager learned firsthand how life after a “perfect” life in the White House could be upended. The NBC News correspondent recently came under fire for a flub at the 2017 Golden Globes.
While putting in work on the red carpet, she “accidentally combined movie titles ‘Hidden Figures’ and ‘Fences’ while interviewing Pharrell Williams at the 2017 Golden Globes,” according to AJC. A backlash erupted on social media as many shouted claims of racism.
The next day, she tearfully apologized on live TV, saying, “It was a mistake. I am not perfect.”
Perhaps the most fervent part of George Bush’s daughters letter to Sasha and Malia is for them to enjoy their youth while they can. Malia is set to begin Harvard soon, and Sasha has two years remaining in high school.
Jenna and Barbara will “be rooting” for the girls as they “begin the next chapter,” and many others the world over will likely do the same.
