‘Fences’ Actress Viola Davis To Get Her Very Own Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame

Actress Viola Davis is set to get her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

For Davis, who will become enshrined with the star during a special ceremony on January 5, 2017, the distinction is a long, long time coming.

Viola is, after all, an award-winning actress for her various roles on television, Broadway, and even the big screen. The big-time actress has picked up Tony, Critics’ Choice, SAG, People’s Choice, and Emmy awards for her various roles in How To Get Away With Murder, Fences, Law and Order: SVU, and a number of Broadway performances to boot.

In spite of all of these, however, Viola’s biggest accomplishment up to this Hollywood star has been the love, respect, and admiration of those around her.

“Viola is one of [those] actresses who always [mesmerizes] fans with her talent,” said Anna Martinez, the vice president of media relations for the Hollywood Walk of Fame, according to Essence. It was Martinez who first broke the news regarding Davis’ incoming Walk of Fame star, via her Twitter account yesterday.

“[Viola Davis] is amazing,” Martinez also added, “and we are thrilled that she will grace our world famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.”

Clearly, Viola Davis’ star has long been on the rise.

Meanwhile, it was also announced that legendary actress Meryl Streep will assist in Davis’ Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony, alongside emcee and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Leron Gubler.

Streep’s selection to be a public face for the event is, no doubt, one that holds a lot of personal meaning for Viola. After all, as Davis once told ABC News in an interview, it was this fellow actress in particular who played a very vital role in her own personal success with regard to her performance in the show How To Get Away With Murder.

Davis, after all, appeared in Meryl’s 2008 movie Doubt, alongside Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

“When I got that role, I thought I had won the lottery – I cannot even tell you,” Davis told ABC News during the 2014 interview, in which she spoke in depth about the level of inspiration that Meryl Sreep provided for her, personally.

“Meryl Streep is the greatest actress because you can see so many different emotions going on in her eyes,” Viola continued, noting that working with the famed, award-winning actress was “a joy as an artist.”

Davis also noted that, in spite of her own talent, Streep was always very vocal in soliciting the opinions of her peers on set and allowing them to remain a very vocal part of Doubt‘s production process.

And it was this aspect, ironically, that had the greatest impact on Viola at the time.

“I see her consciously make that effort knowing what her responsibility is from the moment she steps on,” noted Davis before continuing, “And she does it as much as she can.”

“And I,” Viola Davis added, “respected that and honored that.”

In and about Hollywood, the news of Viola Davis’ upcoming star comes, as Vibe noted, just days after the actress received a Critics’ Choice award, and about a week before her new film Fences hits theaters on Christmas day.

So, clearly, Viola Davis has a lot to get excited about in the coming days and weeks.

The entire event surrounding Viola Davis’ Hollywood Boulevard star will be live-streamed on the internet starting at 11:30 a.m. PST.
