Saturday Night Live has drawn as much praise as criticism for its recent political portrayals. Both sides agree that despite the characterization of Trump portrayed by Baldwin, his impersonation of the president-elect is an Emmy-worthy, spot-on performance. Baldwin continued to deliver a flawless interpretation of Trump’s mannerisms and persona in last night’s Saturday Night Live episode.
Trump has made recent headlines after having a series of unexpected guests visit Trump Tower including Bill Gates and Kanye West . He continued to appoint people to his upcoming cabinet, but the main headlines making news the past week has been in regards to allegations Russia hacked the presidential elections.
The claims have drawn considerable controversy in a nation completely divided between the right and the left. While U.S. intelligence claims Russia was behind the Wikileaks and DNC hacks that dominated headlines, Julian Assange of Wikileaks says Russia was not behind the leak. WikiLeaks states that a source from the DNC handed materials personally and that’s where the leak came from, according to reports by the Daily Mail . Some suggest that Trump is working in collusion with Russia’s president Vladimir Putin and this was not ignored during SNL skits.
Donald Trump continues to tweet after being depicted in negative form on Saturday Night Live . At the time of this writing, Donald Trump has not tweeted about last night’s Saturday Night Live episode with Casey Affleck and Chance the Rapper. He did not directly engage in a Twitter war with Alec Baldwin, but that might change as the upcoming week moves forward. As more news covers Saturday Night Live , it’s possible that it will provoke a response from the president-elect.
If Russia, or some other entity, was hacking, why did the White House wait so long to act? Why did they only complain after Hillary lost?

Saturday Night Live opened with a Christmas wreath that adorned the doors to Trump Tower. Kate McKinnon portrayed Kellyanne Conway and Alec Baldwin was Donald Trump. McKinnon has continually played both Kellyanne Conway and Hillary Clinton to critical acclaim, yet her portrayal of Conway is considerably less than favorable. She portrays Conway as a woman who appears to have been “sucked in” by Trump and can’t free herself from Trump’s grip. McKinnon makes Conway appear as if she can’t get away from the president-elect as hard as she tries. This view seems to resonate with many people who recognize Conway as a hard working woman and mother of four children who has made history as the first woman to lead a winning, presidential campaign. For all her feministic points of praise, however; they are swept under the rug by those who can’t comprehend why she has ingrained herself with Donald Trump. McKinnon’s portrayal is one where Kellyanne seems to question why she is in the place where she is and views her as the person calling the shots in the upcoming, future Trump presidency. McKinnon will give the camera plenty of exasperated, frustrated and confused looks that infer Conway is continually taken aback by the blustering buffoon depicted in Alec Baldwin’s characterization.
The Saturday Night Live “Christmas Cold Open” also hinted at the recent news that Jackie Evancho and Andrea Bocelli would perform at Trump’s inauguration. The big winner was SNL repertory member Beck Bennett, who shimmied shirtless down a chimney as Vladimir Putin to present Trump with a Christmas gift. Putin gifted Trump an Elf on the Shelf and suggested he set it up next to his WiFi, alluding to claims Russia continually spies on the U.S. government. Bennett’s Putin character praised Baldwin’s Trump by saying the Russians viewed Trump as the smartest and best candidate then called him a Manchurian candidate. The show continued with holiday sketches, performances by Chance the Rapper and Casey Affleck drew laughter and praise for several skits including “Dunkin Donuts” and
