Kate Beckinsale And Ex Michael Sheen Share An Emotional Cry
Underworld stars Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen may have gone their separate ways long ago, but there’s one very special thing keeping them together in a friendly and joyous relationship. That one thing is their daughter, Lily Mo Sheen, and as Beckinsale and Sheen recently shared, Lily’s latest achievement has brought the extended family together in a moment of sheer pride and joy. In fact, Kate and Michael admit they have been brought to tears, as they watch Lily grow into her own person and prepare to leave the nest.
Underworld Stars Kate Beckinsale And Michael Sheen Share Their Proudest Moment As Parents
As E! News reports, the great achievement that has both Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen feeling so proud of Lily is the confirmation that she has been accepted into college. The noteworthy moment brought both of the Underworld stars to tears, as they shared an emotional embrace with Lily and with one another. Sheen, as his ex-wife reveals, was moved to share emotional hugs, while even Kate was brought to tears.
Ms. Beckinsale shared the memory on Instagram with her followers in a split image picture showing Michael picking up Lily into his arms in the left image, while he’s seen hugging Kate on the right.
“The appropriate fatherly response when you find out your girl got into college : burst into tears, drop everything, rush over and pick up everyone even remotely involved. @lily_beckinsale we are so unbelievably proud of you. Fly fly fly,” Ms. Beckinsale captioned the picture.
Kate followed her words with a string of hearts, showing a mother’s love for Lily Sheen.
It seems Lily is hoping to follow in the footsteps of her parents. Previously, Ms. Beckinsale had revealed that Lily was hoping to attend drama school. It would seem that Ms. Sheen has passed the admissions process and is well on her way towards an acting career. Perhaps she’ll reboot the Underworld franchise one day.
Kate Beckinsale Is Her Father’s Daughter
Underworld has been a blessing and a curse for Kate Beckinsale. The blessing, obviously, is that the franchise has helped launch the actress into stardom and the curse, similarly, is that it has caused Hollywood to limit its vision for Beckinsale. She tells Belfast Telegraph Hollywood casting agents are very often surprised by her sense of humor, which Kate sees as a bit ironic, considering funnyman Richard Beckinsale (Porridge, Rising Damp) was her father.
Richard Beckinsale died of a heart attack when Kate was just 4-years-old, but his memory has stayed with her through the years. There have been times in her own career when Kate has tried to distance herself from her father’s legacy because she wanted to achieve success on her own merits, but that doesn’t mean she has ever loved her father any less.
In fact, Kate reveals that losing Richard Beckinsale was a loss that cut deep.
Beckinsale says her father’s passing “was 100 percent soul-destroying and totally impacted me for ever.”
Kate shares that her difficulties in dealing with her father’s death led her to develop anorexia and compelled her to seek out therapy when she was a teenager. While she started out a troubled teen, Kate reveals that her early adulthood helped her to put things in better focus. She began acting in the theater and that seemed where he future might lead, until fate intervened and she met Michael Sheen.
When Lily came into the picture, Beckinsale says everything changed for her. The Underworld actress says she felt that she needed to be at home when it was time for Lily to go to bed because that’s when the magic really happens. Kate quit the theater because she wanted to be home at night when her daughter was more likely to tell her things.
The family eventually ended up in Los Angeles, where both Beckinsale and Sheen felt more comfortable sending Lily off to secondary school. The move also benefited Kate’s career, first with Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor (2001), which then helped her get that big break in Underworld.
Now, Kate Beckinsale is ready to retire the leather jumpsuit and her Underworld character along with it as her daughter, Lily Mo Sheen, is ready to embark on her own acting career. Life has come full circle.
