Top 10 Best Horror Movies For A Scary-Fun Christmas 2016 That Are A Must-Watch
Christmas 2016 is coming, and some of the best horror movies are perfect for the occasion. Not all of the horror movies centered on Christmas are worth watching; most critics and audiences agree that four sequels to Silent Night, Deadly Night is a bit much. But there are plenty of horror movies to celebrate Christmas with that are considered a must-watch for both casual and avid fans of the genre. Some of the titles listed are funny, and others are downright scary, but they are all entertaining.
Black Christmas
It’s only fair to start with not only one of the first horror movies centered on Christmas, but this title is known as the first slasher flick. And for those that enjoy irony, the film is directed by A Christmas Story director Bob Clark. Reel Film Reviews describes why this remains one of the best horror movies for Christmas.
“Though infused with a whole host of dated elements, Black Christmas remains a sporadically effective slasher that’s buoyed by the use of several genre-specific devices that are still in use today (ie an opening point-of-view shot that undoubtedly inspired John Carpenter’s Halloween).”
Krampus
In one of the most recent Christmas horror movies, Krampus puts a modern tone into the classic folklore tale. Starring Adam Scott (Parks and Recreation), David Koechner (The Office), and Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine), the film offers as much wit as it does gore.
A Christmas Horror Story
In another addition of the Krampus-themed Christmas movies, this intertwining horror anthology offers a twist ending that most won’t see coming. Plus, it co-stars William Shatner.
P2
If you have ever wondered what it would be like to be trapped in a parking garage with a maniac on Christmas Eve, then this is the movie for you.
Silent Night, Deadly Night
Like many (perhaps most) horror franchises, the numerous additions to this series is unnecessary. But the original is still considered a cult classic and it’s perfect for those that love 80s horror movies.
Stalled
In the same vein of horror-comedies like Shaun of the Dead comes, Stalled. Cinema Crazed explains why this horror flick is one of the best Christmas movies for a scary-fun time.
“Director Christian James’ ‘Stalled’ is a very creative and often clever horror comedy that takes the zombie movie to a new direction… Unlike more mainstream zombie movies in 2013, ‘Stalled’ really grasps for individualism, and it works.”
Gremlins
Gremlins is considered by most to be a horror-comedy, in fact, Executive Producer Steven Spielberg chose director Joe Dante because of his experience with the genre (The Howling). And though there are many Christmas and heartwarming elements to the film, there is no denying the dark overtone and outright horror-like scenes.
Jack Frost
There are two types of bad horror movies: those that are truly bad, and those that are so bad that they are good—this one is the latter. If you have ever wondered what a possessed snowman would be like, then look no further.
Santa’s Slay
Bill Goldberg is a self-proclaimed superhero in the WWE, but he’s much more entertaining as a killer Santa. Not a killer dressed as Santa, but Santa himself, who is apparently the son of Satan. Watch Goldberg set Fran Drescher on fire, burn naked strippers alive, and terrorize neighborhoods in Santa’s Slay. This gory film is very tongue-in-cheek and it stars Emilie de Ravin, Robert Culp, Douglas Smith, with cameos from Fran Drescher, Chris Kattan, Rebecca Gayheart, and James Caan.
Christmas Evil
Just in case you didn’t get your fill of 80s slasher movies, Christmas Evil is noted as the first film to portray a killer dressed as Santa. There may not have been a Silent Night, Deadly Night without this little known gem. This film has also been released under the titles of You Better Watch Out and Terror in Toyland.
