One Direction Still Very Much Together: Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, And Louis Tomlinson In Contact
One Direction’s Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik may have been strangers back in 2010 when they first met on X-Factor, but six years later, they have naturally become close. Five years on tour can do that for band members. It’s a brother bond that forms naturally among people who learn to rely on each other.
One Direction fans only see parts of this relationship. The media likes to speculate about the details, and some have a pretty good idea what is going on, but no one sees the situation quite the way Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik experience it. Even among the One Direction members, each has experienced 1D in his own way.
Zayn Malik’s new book gives fans a window into the world of One Direction, but from Harry Styles interviews, it becomes plain that even when, riding in the same bus, staying in the same hotel, and standing next to each other on stage, two people can experience the same world far differently. One Direction is in many ways a study of point of view, from fans, from media and even from Styles, Payne, Horan, Tomlinson, and Malik.

Zayn Malik was caught up with an appearance on the wrong side of the Atlantic at the time, according to the Daily Mail, but he has been in contact with Louis and been supportive, according to the Mirror, who quote a source.

One Direction’s Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson and Louis’ sister Lottie were seen together at Cirque Le Soir in London. Liam and Niall were there to comfort Louis and Lottie after the tragic loss of their mother to leukemia. They were photographed but reportedly made a point of not being photographed together, according to People.
One Direction’s Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have not allowed themselves to be photographed together since the beginning of the Hiatus. That does not mean the boys are not speaking to each other by phone, skype, chat or even in person, only that they deliberately aren’t being seen together publicly.
Zayn Malik and One Direction do have lives apart from what is apparent to journalists. Despite constant monitoring by the paparazzi, these guys have some right to privacy. They may be going through a lot of things the public are unaware of. Louis Tomlinson’s mother’s illness was not widely known, for example.
One Direction’s Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik all have their struggles and most of the time they keep them private. Zayn has been more open lately, mostly because he has been the most misunderstood and misrepresented in the press.
Zayn Malik revealed his struggle with anxiety this summer, but until then the public had no idea. Zayn was highly criticized for leaving One Direction, but now fans and the press know that it was basically a matter of self-preservation. Zayn had an anxiety-based eating disorder and was unable to eat for days at a time. He was really in pretty bad shape, but no one knew.
One Direction’s Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson have been the greatest puzzle of all because neither of them has been seen out and about much. They haven’t been all that active on social media either during hiatus. Now, we find out that Louis Tomlinson not only has a baby to care for, but his mother had been terminally ill. Thankfully, the hiatus allowed him to spend time with her.
One Direction’s Liam Payne did not reveal his wife Cheryl’s pregnancy until it became obvious. Liam and Cheryl wisely decided to keep it quiet, although many journalists suspected it from the beginning. Much to the disappointment of fans and press, it is traditional not to publicly announce a pregnancy until at least the second trimester.
Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik do a lot of things no one knows about. One Direction’s Harry Styles does quite a bit of charity work, and so do the others, but they modestly avoid publicizing it, in part to protect the people they help.
Niall Horan has made one thing perfectly clear, though, and no matter how many times he says it, no one believes him. Niall Horan has told fans and the press over and over that One Direction are not breaking up. He’s used words like “inevitable” and “guaranteed” to express the certainty of future One Direction tours. It is all over the internet, on video, in print, and even on audio from radio interviews.
Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and perhaps even Zayn Malik will come together again, about 18 months from March of 2016. That means One Direction will return around September of 2017. That is what Niall told fans before the hiatus, and he has not changed his story, nor has any other band member contradicted what he has said.
Zayn Malik even expressed an interest in getting back together with One Direction at some point. There is no argument or disagreement about the length of the hiatus at all. Frankly, it sounds like Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan are waiting out some contractual obligation left over from their agreement with Simon Cowell, Syco Records or Modest Management.
One Direction’s Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan are not feuding or having issues with each other, or Zayn Malik. They are taking some much needed time off, as bands who have been together for more than a few years normally do. They have a definite plan to reunite at a specified time.
One Direction’s hiatus has been good for Louis Tomlinson who got to spend his mother’s final months with her. He also got to spend time with his new son during that critical time when babies bond with their parents. Niall Horan finally got to travel and see that world he’s been jetting quickly through for five years. Liam Payne found love and is now also an expectant father.

Harry Styles used his One Direction hiatus to make at least two movies and a solo album. He’s worked a lot during his break, but then Harry has always been tireless in his efforts. He is using his time to rebrand himself, and that branding change will change the overall image of the band.
One Direction’s image will be impacted in a very positive way by the hiatus. The solo work of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson will establish One Direction as a group of serious musicians.
One Direction with Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and possibly even Zayn Malik will reunite in late 2017.
