‘The Big Bang Theory’ Winter Finale Delivers A Baby And An Awesome Tribute To Mrs. Wolowitz [Spoilers]
The Big Bang Theory tackled the circle of life in its winter finale on Thursday night. The previous episode of the show left viewers with a cliffhanger as Big Bang’s tiny power couple of Howard and Bernadette Wolowitz headed for the hospital presumably to have their baby. Tonight’s Big Bang picked up immediately where the last left off with Raj and Stuart hilariously vying to be the most useful helper to the soon-to-be new parents as they whisked Bernadette through the streets of Pasadena to get to the hospital.
As Bernadette and Howard arrived at the hospital, a side story featuring Big Bang’s power cerebral couple, Amy and Sheldon, had the two preparing for a celebration of their own. Sheldon woke Amy up for a frisky “Happy Birthday” surprise only to have the anniversary of their annual coitus interrupted by news of baby Wolowitz’s impending arrival.

After being sent home because her contractions were 12 minutes apart, Bernadette and Howard became the subject of a film Raj was making for baby Wolowitz when Koothrappali delivered a big bang sized faux pas — he revealed the gender of the baby, a secret Howard and Bernadette had hoped not to spoil until the arrival.
So did The Big Bang Theory cast gain another male or female?

The Wolowitz’s welcomed a baby girl, helping to round out the male to female ratio for those who are keeping score. In a sweet moment as Bernadette’s labor progressed, she and Howard brought up his deceased mother. While the two considered giving baby Wolowitz her name, it turned out baby Halley (as in Halley’s comet — a name not only befitting for the daughter of two scientists but an astronaut’s child to boot) got something more befitting to memorialize Mrs. Wolowitz…her voice.
In a brilliant scene, as The Big Bang friends gathered outside the nursery trying to identify which baby belonged to Howard and Bernadette, Raj who professed to know them better than anyone said he would be able to point the baby out. Suddenly a throaty, deep, infant’s cry took over, similar to Mrs. Wolowitz’s infamous offstage “Howard!” indicating that little Halley Wolowitz will most likely never been seen but very loudly heard for her Big Bang role.
The Big Bang Theory is currently in its 10th season. Cast and crew were devastated in November of 2014 when actress Carol Ann Susi who played the voice of Debbie Wolowitz died after a brief battle with cancer. According to People, the frontrunners of Big Bang commended the significant contributions made by a character who was never seen on the screen.
“Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show’s eight seasons,” Big Bang producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro, and Bill Prady stated. “What was not a mystery, however, was Carol Ann’s immense talent and comedic timing, which were on display during each unforgettable appearance.”
The Big Bang Theory has honored the memory of Carol Ann Susi and Mrs. Wolowitz multiple times since her death, but it is perhaps Halley Wolowitz that will carry on her legacy. In an interview with Yahoo TV, Big Bang producer Steve Molaro noted that the show’s creators felt it was important to bring life full circle.
“We talked about it for a while, and I think we knew early on it was going to be a little girl, and that she was going to sound like Mrs. Wolowitz. It’s a little tribute to Halley’s grandmother that we now have another awesome heard-and-not-seen voice in the spirit of Mrs. Wolowitz back on the show.”

And as for whether or not Sheldon and Amy were able to seal the deal on their second lovemaking experience, well after Amy tried to get Sheldon’s sex drive purring by breaking out a couple of Harry Potter robes, he was more distraught to discover she had gone to Harry Potter World without him. To make it up to him, Amy spent her birthday with Sheldon revisiting Harry Potter World and as their day came to a close and she had accepted the fact that there would be no big banging going on, Sheldon had a surprise of his own. He was feeling frisky after all. And once again, The Big Bang Theory mastered the offscreen technique of comedy by having the two rush off to the bedroom.
