WWE News: Eric Bischoff Says Ric Flair Vs. Charlotte Is A Natural Story
During a recent Sports Illustrated Controversial Story of the Week podcast, former WWE talent Eric Bischoff was talking about the recent Ric Flair WWE storyline with Charlotte where she once again demeaned her father on Monday Night Raw last week. When asked about this Ric Flair segment, Bischoff said there was nothing controversial about it.
According to Bischoff, storylines where parents are battling their children are as old as time itself. He pointed out how much fun it was when he took part in one with his son Garrett Bischoff in WCW.
“They’ve existed for just about as long as you’ve had fathers and sons and fathers and daughters in the wrestling business. We saw it with Vince McMahon and Stephanie McMahon quite awhile back. I think we’ve probably seen some kind of variation of that with Vince and Shane.”
Eric Bischoff, who will have Ric Flair on his podcast soon, said that it is human nature to tell these stories of children rebelling against their parents and the conflict that brings. He is also right. Ric Flair is nowhere near the first wrestler to take part in this type of story, although Charlotte being his daughter might make it seem more controversial.
This also isn’t the first time that Charlotte has ripped into Ric Flair on Monday Night Raw, as she fired him publicly once already as her manager and left him leaving the ring in tears. The incident this last week was just a retread to reintroduce Ric Flair to WWE television.
As The Inquisitr previously reported, Ric Flair has signed a new deal to return to the WWE as an on-air personality. From the look of it, Ric Flair will possibly manage Sasha Banks, which many believe will lead to him betraying her and rejoining Charlotte down the line.
Looking at just the WWE, and fans will see many parent-children feuds way before Ric Flair and Charlotte started their feud. Of course, as Eric Bischoff said, the closest comparison was the feud between Vince McMahon and both of his kids including his daughter Stephanie McMahon.
While Stephanie McMahon is a clear villain now, there was a time where she was more of a “pure” girl, and Vince McMahon was responsible for an Undertaker angle where they actually hung Stephanie on a cross as a sacrifice in the Corporate Ministry angle.
Other feuds in the WWE before the current Ric Flair and Charlotte feud include Randy Orton turning on his father Cowboy Bob Orton and Cody Rhodes turning on his father “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes.
Other feuds in professional wrestling outside of the WWE include Bill Dundee feuding with his son Jamie Dundee, Jerry Lawler feuding with Brian Christopher, and even Ric Flair feuding with David Flair back in WCW.
There are also a ton of events with siblings feuding, led by Stephanie McMahon and Shane McMahon right now, something that their own father Vince McMahon plotted to bring more competition to the WWE.

Eric Bischoff said that it is just smart storytelling for the WWE.
“We can all sort of relate to a conflict with our parents. When you put that conflict, that natural kind of conflict with your parents, inside the context of a pro wrestling ring or sports entertainment ring that’s a natural part of storytelling.”
The Ric Flair and Charlotte feud looks to run into the next Monday Night Raw exclusive pay-per-view Roadblock this Sunday. At that event, Charlotte and Sasha Banks will fight in a 30-minute Iron Man match, and the sides have been drawn. The question now is whether Ric Flair will remain feuding with Charlotte or will betray Sasha Banks for yet another WWE swerve.
