WWE News: AJ Styles Availability For ‘SmackDown’ In Doubt

AJ Styles injured himself at the WWE PPV event Tables, Ladders, and Chairs, and actually needed help to the back after the match. While AJ Styles looked OK when he was celebrating the win over Dean Ambrose, as soon as the cameras stopped rolling, he dropped to the mat and showed that his ankle was injured.

The Wrestling Observer Radio reported that the WWE held AJ Styles out of the house shows over the weekend to allow him time to recover from the injury better. This was also after the WWE had to cancel the AJ Styles world title defense over James Ellsworth from SmackDown Live last Tuesday.

The WWE still wants to have the AJ Styles vs. James Ellsworth match and they hope that the champion will be back for SmackDown Live this next week to take part in that match. However, even if AJ Styles is not able to fight in the match, he will still be on television for the episode like he was last week.

Last week on SmackDown Live, AJ Styles came out and made it clear that he was in no shape to wrestle and passed on the match with James Ellsworth at that time. Dean Ambrose then came out and got revenge on Ellsworth for costing him the title at Tables, Ladders, and Chairs on Sunday night.

Later on the show, Dean Ambrose got a chance for the Intercontinental Championship from The Miz and James Ellsworth came out and interfered in that match as well, costing Ambrose another title opportunity. There are heavy rumors that Ambrose will feud with The Miz for the IC title but he will have to finish his storyline with Ellsworth first.

That means that it is almost assured that when James Ellsworth gets his title shot against AJ Styles, Dean Ambrose will get involved. Of course, there is no need for interference because AJ Styles should beat Ellsworth without any problem in this match, especially since Ellsworth has won previous matches over AJ Styles thanks to Ambrose helping him.

However, after AJ Styles beats James Ellsworth, Dean Ambrose can run in and take some measure of revenge on Ellsworth. After that, both AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose can move on to their next feud. If Ambrose feuds with The Miz, a new contender needs to step up to face AJ Styles.

That is why AJ Styles returning to television this week is so important. As long as James Ellsworth hangs over the heads of AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose, the two won’t be able to move on to their next feuds. The longer that AJ Styles is out with his injury, the longer the next feud will stall.

The Inquisitr previously reported that John Cena is ready to make his return to the WWE and will be back at the end of December. The idea right now is for John Cena to reignite his feud with AJ Styles. In the feud so far, AJ Styles has won over John Cena but a Cena win would help him break Ric Flair’s record for most world title wins in a career.

It would also start the possibility of a John Cena vs. Undertaker feud that could lead to WrestleMania. Since John Cena won’t be back on TV until the start of 2017, that gives AJ Styles some time to finish his feud with James Ellsworth and wrap up the Dean Ambrose storyline, but the WWE might want to see AJ Styles wrestle more leading to the John Cena possibility.
