Sen. Marco Rubio’s Daughter Airlifted After Golf Cart Accident
Senator Marco Rubio‘s eldest daughter Amanda, 12, was involved in a golf cart accident in Miami, Florida on Saturday. The Florida Senator left the campaign trail, where he has been stumping for Mitt Romney, to be by her side.
Fox News reports that Rubio’s office released a statement about the accident, saying:
“Amanda Rubio, the oldest daughter of Senator Marco Rubio was injured in an accident this afternoon. While visiting with classmates, she was a passenger on a golf cart in a collision in a private gated community.”
The statement added:
“She was airlifted to Miami Children’s Hospital with a head injury. She has been admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She is in fair condition. Senator and Mrs. Rubio are grateful for all the outpouring of support and prayers.”
Senator Marco Rubio was alerted to the accident after he left a campaign rally in Kissimmee with Mitt Romney. The Romney motorcade was seen pulling over on the side of Interstate 4 around 6:44 pm.
Rubio was spotted talking on a cell phone outside the campaign bus for several minutes. He then shook hands with a few people and left the scene in a Florida State Trooper’s vehicle, notes Yahoo! News. He was presumably taken to a local airport so he could fly to Miami.
The statement by the senator’s office added that he learned of the accident involving Amanda Rubio after leaving the stage at a rally Saturday afternoon. It appeared that Rubio stayed with the Romney motorcade so that he could be taken as close as possible to an airport.
Miami-Dade County Commissioner Rebecca Sosa, a family friend of the Rubio’s, stated that Amanda suffered a concussion, but is doing better now.
