Beyonce is no doubt one of the best musicians of all time and this year her music has earned her a whopping nine Grammy nominations.
Beyonce got nine nominations on Tuesday, making her the artist with the most nominations this year. Fellow artists Rihanna, Drake, and Kanye West each bagged eight nominations, thus following very closely behind Queen Bey. Some of the categories in which she was nominated include Song of the Year with her hit song “Formation” and record of the year courtesy of her Lemonade album.
Beyonce has won about 20 Grammys in her music career and she does not want to stop there. The artist is looking to add on to that number by hopefully bagging some more awards in the 2017 Grammy Awards. However, it will not be easy because the competition is quite stiff. For example, she will be competing with British singer Adele for the top three awards. Adele’s album 25 has also been nominated for the Album of the Year award.
Beyonce and Adele’s competition for the album of the year category also includes Justin Bieber’s album Purpose and Drake with his album Views . Country music singer Sturgill Simpson also surprisingly made the list of nominees for album of the year with A Sailor’s Guide to Earth .
As for the song of the year award, Adele’s “Hello” and Beyonce’s “Formation” will be battling it out with Lukas Graham’s “7 Years,” “Stressed Out” by Twenty One Pilots, and Drake and Rihanna’s “Work.” Queen Bey and Adele also received nominations for the songwriter’s award and they will be competing with Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” and Bieber’s “Love Yourself,” which was also co-written by British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran.

Some of Beyonce’s other nominations include best rap/sung performance (“Freedom” with Kendrick Lamar), best pop solo performance (“Hold Up”), urban contemporary album ( Lemonade ), and best rock performance (“Don’t Hurt Yourself” with Jack White).
“Artists are feeling emboldened and courageous and just wanting to step out of the predictable boundaries of what they have done. Of course, (Beyonce) is the poster child for that,” stated Neil Portnow, the CEO and president of the Recording Academy, according to Journal Now .
One of the most notable nominations for the 2017 Grammys is David Bowie who received four nominations courtesy of his album Blackstar . He was nominated in various categories including best non-classical, best alternative album and engineered album, best rock song, and best rock performance. Unfortunately, Bowie passed away in January this year due to cancer-related causes. Blackstar was David Bowie’s last album.
“I think this is beyond sort of the sympathy vote because sometimes you’ll see those kinds of things happen just ’cause people feel sorry about it. But listen to (his) album — it’s quite extraordinary,” Portnow pointed out, according to Boston Globe .
So far Beyonce has received 62 Grammy nominations, and out of those nominations, she scooped 20 wins as noted earlier. It is no surprise because Beyonce has been in the music industry for a long time. She cemented her place among the great artists long ago by producing hit after hit and constantly producing good quality and creative music.
Queen Bey’s music has also been appealing to many because she always tends to focus on a specific subject such as women empowerment or overcoming odds. Her influence has also encouraged other artists, and her quality music is also a gold standard that many other artists consider when they want to come up with good content. It is therefore not surprising that she has the most nominations. Winning all the awards Beyonce was nominated for will definitely be an impressive addition to her musical cred, but given the talent of the other nominees, that is highly unlikely.
