Update On ‘Married At First Sight’ Couple Jamie Otis And Doug Hehner: How They Are Coping After Miscarriage
Fans of Married at First Sight couple Jamie Otis and Doug Hehner were ecstatic when Jamie announced her pregnancy earlier this summer. Fans were then heartbroken when a short time later, Jamie suffered a miscarriage at four months pregnant. It crushed Jamie and Doug to lose their beloved son. Otis and Hehner allowed fans into their world and she documented what she and Doug were going through. It has now been nearly five months since their tremendous loss and many are wondering how Jamie and Doug are doing and if there is talk of trying for another baby.
Jamie went to Instagram to give fans an update last night. After almost five months, the pain Otis feels is still obvious and understandable. Jamie shared a photo of herself in a swimsuit bikini that showed off her tiny baby bump. Doug is pointing to her tummy in this picture and in the caption she shares it was when she was three months along. The entire caption Jamie wrote is a letter to her angel son, Johnny.
Jamie began the note by saying, “It wasn’t my choice to survive without you. So I will spend my life living for you and honoring you.” Otis goes on to say little did she know in a month after the photo was taken he would be gone. Jamie said, “The heartache since you left has been excruciating.” Jamie went on to shared her wonder on what her son would have looked like if he had made it full term. Otis also expresses how much she misses him. She closes the caption by saying, “I’ll always, always love you.”
Jamie has been extremely open with her feelings about losing her son and fans admire her for that. Us Weekly shared news of Jamie and Doug’s loss in mid-July. The news came within just a few short weeks after they had announced their pregnancy to the world. Woman’s Day shared a message from Jamie in which she explained in greater detail how she lost her son. Jamie explained that after seeing a specialist and suffering intermittent bleeding throughout her pregnancy she learned she had very little amniotic fluid for the baby to survive. Per doctor advice, Doug and Jamie made the difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy at 17 weeks.
After saying goodbye to their son, Jamie and Doug named him a few days later. The name they chose is Johnathan Edward Hehner. Jamie noted to People that Jonathan means “A gift from God.” Edward was chosen because that is Doug’s middle name.
Since that time Jamie has been keeping herself busy. Along with starting her own jewelry line, Jamie has also published her first book, Wifey 101: Everything I Got Wrong After Finding Mr. Right, a memoir that documented her marriage and their initial struggles. Jamie is also a registered nurse herself and was working in labor and delivery in New York. Otis has also been doing a few other hosting jobs in her spare time.
Jamie made her television debut and was known as “the awkward girl” on The Bachelor during Season 16. Otis then appeared on Bachelor Pad in 2012. That was not the end of Jamie’s reality television gigs, it was just the beginning. In March of 2014, Jamie and Doug met at the altar on the first season of Married at First Sight. Jamie and Doug had a rocky start to their marriage, but they figured things out and are truly a match made in heaven. They complement each other well and Jamie’s love for spooning is what inspired her beautiful jewelry line.
Now that several months have passed, fans are hoping Jamie and Doug will be announcing another pregnancy soon. Just three weeks ago Jamie posted to Instagram sharing that she and Doug were officially trying for their rainbow baby. Followers of the couple can’t wait to see Jamie and Doug welcome another baby into the world. Stay tuned for more news on Jamie and Doug and other Married at First Sight couples.
