See The Obama Family New Homes In Washington, DC And Rancho Mirage, California

President Obama and family have a little over a month left until they officially move out of the White House, and people are eager to see where the Obamas are going next. But Barack, Michelle, Sasha, and Malia Obama have secured two properties to become a bi-coastal family. The Obamas are moving to their primary residence in the swanky Washington, DC neighborhood of Kalorama and have also bought a home in a golf course community in Rancho Mirage, California.

Though the Obamas likely won’t be holding parties on the scale of state dinners, like their last big event for the Italian Prime Minister and his wife, their new homes are large and certainly upscale enough for some serious entertaining, says the Inquisitr. And like the last state dinner that had Gwen Stefani, Mario Batali, and Andrew Cuomo among the guest, the Obamas will likely have quite a list of well-known people visiting their new digs.

President Obama has said that the family intends to stay in Washington, DC until at least 2018 when Sasha graduates from high school, says the New York Times. The house in the upscale Kalorama neighborhood is very nice by any standards and comes with a comparable price tag. The Obamas are leasing the 8200 square foot, nine bedroom home, which on Zillow is priced at $22k per month. The house is valued at six million dollars.

The Kalorama home is owned by Joe Lockhart, a former press secretary and senior adviser to Bill Clinton, who has moved to New York to take a job as executive vice president of communications for the NFL. The home backs up to Rock Creek Park, and the neighborhood is home to many other politicians and diplomats.

The home is luxurious with hardwood floors throughout, and many marble appointments. It also has an au pair suite for Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson. The property is surrounded by elegant formal gardens. President Obama and family will obviously bring added security to the neighborhood, which is already pretty secure, as the Embassy of Oman is down the block, and the house is around the corner from the French ambassador’s estate.

Town & Country shared a variety of photographs of the DC house, thanks to listing agent Mark McFadden, that the Obamas will call home for at least the next two years, and the words that come to mind are stately, elegant, and traditional. The entire house is decorated in a neutral subdued palette, with white appointments.

Though the Washington home is spectacular, it is leased, but the Obamas have decided to put the real money down on a home in Rancho Mirage, California, says the Town & Country. For at least two years, it is the plan of Barack and Michelle Obama to be bicoastal. But just as Kalorama has experience with high-profile residents, so does Rancho Mirage, considering that is the area where President Gerald Ford moved when he retired.

Rancho Mirage is a golfing destination near Palm Springs, which is home to Sunnylands, the Annenberg estate, fondly known as “Camp David of the West.” But in terms of real estate, the Obamas are also said to be seeking property in Hawaii, where Barack Obama spent a great deal of time as a child. The Obamas are said to be working with interior designer Michael S. Smith, who decorated areas of the White House for the family, to decorate the Rancho Mirage and Hawaii homes.

Sure, the new homes are not the White House, but it looks like they will continue living in style.
