WWE News: Mickie James Offered WWE Contract Following Great NXT Showing
The WWE have Asuka as their NXT women’s champion, but after bringing most of their talented women up to the main roster following the WWE brand split, there is no one left to challenge Asuka. As a result, at NXT TakeOver: Toronto, the WWE brought back former women’s champion Mickie James to wrestle her for the title.
Like many of the NXT surprise showings, Mickie James was given a one-match deal and that was it. However, Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that the WWE was very impressed with her performance and has offered Mickie James an actual contract to join the WWE main roster.
The Mickie James vs. Asuka match was a solid competition, and James proved that she could compete on the levels of today’s WWE women. It almost seems like Mickie James was ahead of her time when she was in the WWE last time around.
When Mickie James first appeared in the WWE, it as the era of many of the fitness models-turned-wrestlers. Trish Stratus was the most successful of these models turned wrestlers. Mickie James, who wrestled in Ring of Honor and TNA Impact Wrestling as Alexis Laree, came up through the Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental promotion.

Mickie James debuted on the main roster in a stalker gimmick. She was portrayed as Trish Stratus’ biggest fan and began to morph into a lesbian storyline as well over time. When Trish Stratus refuted the affection, Mickie James attacked her and turned heel. Her feud with Trish Stratus was the first big feud of Mickie James’ career.
Her feud with Trish Stratus was the first big feud of Mickie James career. The feud with Trish Stratus ended with Mickie James beating Trish Stratus for the WWE women’s championship. She then moved into a feud with Lita, who took the belt from her.

It is interesting that the WWE wants to bring Mickie James to the main roster. They have plenty of wrestlers on the main roster, and there are a number of wrestlers who are waiting for their turns in the main event scene. However, NXT is almost vacant of anyone outside of Asuka and Ember Moon. It seems someone like Mickie James could be more help in NXT unless the WWE plans to move someone back down.
Wrestling Rumors reported that there are some major future stars still learning the ropes at the WWE Performance Center. Outside of Ember Moon, there are names like Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, Nikki Cross, and the recently signed Crazy Mary Dobson ready to step up.
With that said, Mickie James will make whichever brand she ends up on stronger and might end up on Monday Night Raw, playing the role of a veteran there that Natalya plays on SmackDown Live. At the moment, she has not signed a deal but the WWE has made it clear there is a contract if she wants it.
