Cheers! Rhea Perlman And Kristie Alley Reunite For New Comedy
A new TV show where everybody knows your name is coming to TV Land. The pilot for Giant Baby reunites Cheers co-stars Rhea Perlman and Kirstie Alley for a new comedy, according to the network.
According to CinemaBlend, the two actresses were both involved in the ABC pilot The Manzinis last year, which didn’t get picked up. They’re trying their luck again with a new TV Land comedy called Giant Baby that sees Perlman as a character called Thelma, the assistant to Alley’s character Madison “Maddie” Banks.
Deadline reports that Alley’s character is a Broadway star whose son shows up looking for his biological mother after his adoptive mother passes away. Perlman’s character, who is also the best friend to Alley’s Maddie, encourages her to build a relationship with her newly-discovered son.
“We’ve hit the jackpot getting Kirstie and Rhea back together,” Keith Cox, TV Land’s executive vice president of development and original programming, said. “It’s a dream to work with such talented comedic actors like these ladies and create a show for them that’s funny and has interesting characters — Giant Baby hits all of those notes.”
Giant Baby is written, executive produced, and created by Marco Pennette of Ugly Betty fame. Both Alley and Jason Weinberg are executive producing. Larry W. Jones and Keith Cox from TV Land will also executive produce the project.
