Taeyeon And Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again Collaboration’ Was Recorded — So Why Didn’t They Perform It At MAMA 2016?
Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation and Wiz Khalifa were expected to perform together on stage at MAMA 2016 (Mnet Asian Music Awards) However the performance never materialized and now each side is blaming the other for letting down K-pop fans.

Hallyu fans had high expectations of the performance when a behind-the-scenes video of Wiz Khalifa and Taeyeon rehearsing the collaboration appeared on YouTube. It looks like the Girls’ Generation lead singer was meant to join Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again” performance.

But by the time MAMA 2016 was over, both Taeyon and Wiz had performed solo.
The fact that the joint performance never happened had a lot of Hallyu fans scratching their heads in confusion. Even more so when the studio version of Taeyon singing “See You Again” was posted on social media by Khalifa’s DJ, DJbonics.

According to AllKpop, Khalifa was the first to address the fact that the planned performance did not happen. He did so on Twitter.
The fact that Teyeon backed out of our performance caught me off guard too but never accept rejection as failure.

The “Black And Yellow” rapper later added that Taeyeon did the practice, but then asked to be on a different stage than him before axing the performance altogether.
“She claimed she had to go to the hospital the night before. Did the practice. Asked to be on a different stage than me then canceled,” he said, via Twitter.

As Koreaboo notes, DJbonics offered even more details as to why the Wiz Khalifa/Taeyeon “See You Again” collaboration was nixed. If you read between the lines of some of his tweets, it seems that there may have been a more powerful third party standing in the way of the performance.
In one tweet, he claims that the performance was hyped to promote the show, but then it was whisked away from the fans without any explanation.
They used the “collaboration” to promote the show: and then “someone” took it away from the fans and the fans deserved to see that:

DJbonics also made sure to insist that there was no animosity between the artists.
We rehearsed it with her. We don’t know why she backed out. You can ask her. We aren’t mad. It would have been for the fans. #mama2016

Although Wiz Khalifa’s camp says there’s no bad blood between them and Taeyeon, she has responded to the American rapper’s claims. As AllKpop reports, her response calls into question some of what he said. After uploading a saved Instagram story video from the night of the “See You Again” rehearsal, Taeyeon said that she did not go to the hospital as Khalifa had claimed she said.

“I didn’t go to the hospital my friend.. I was washing up at this time while waiting for you.”
This response may have been prompted by the spate of articles posted since Khalifa’s tweet speculating about why the Girls Generation star may have gone to the hospital.
Despite all of the drama surrounding their cancelled 2016 MAMA collaboration, Wiz Khalifa and Taeyeon had beautiful solo performances on stage that night.
That moment when the audiences sang together during Charlie Puth’s part. It was beautiful. #MAMA2016 @wizkhalifa #SeeYouAgain *crdtstoowner pic.twitter.com/4RaZkQZazg
