After two years of dedication and hard work, Jessica Jung has stepped out of the shadow of her past as a K-pop idol member of So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD), better known as Girls’ Generation, to pave her own professional path. Within that time, Jessica has made four major accomplishments. First, she established and pushed her fashion line Blanc & Eclare . Second, she became a more diverse fashion model especially when she posed topless for a glamour pictorial . Third, she made her comeback to Korean television as one of the hosts for the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) beauty show Beauty Bible . Finally, Jessica Jung made her musical solo debut with her debut album, an extended play (EP) or mini-album titled With Love, J which featured the title track song “Fly” (music video attached above).
What is very amazing about Jessica Jung’s comeback is the fact that she faced a lot of adversity especially from Koreans who have a debilitating view of her ever since she was “kicked out” of Girls’ Generation. With the help of Sones (official fan club of Girls’ Generation) who still believe in “OT9” and Golden Stars (official fan club of Jessica Jung after Gorjess Spazzers technically folded), she was able to fight through the negativity, standing on her own. Needless to say, it is great to see Jessica Jung doing well because the situation with Girls’ Generation and SM Entertainment was simply a mess.
Now, Jessica Jung has surprised her fans and the K-pop community yet again. Reportedly, she will be making a solo comeback this December and she let everyone know about it through numerous teaser images.
The teasers for Jessica Jung’s solo comeback were first seen on social media, specifically her official Instagram account . There were four images posted up teasing said solo comeback all within a span of 24 hours. The first teaser image showed Jessica in a well-lit room, leaning on the decorated baseboard of a bed. The second teaser image was a close-up of Jessica’s face in which she covers her mouth with her hands which are covered by the sleeves of an over-sized glittery sweater. The background suggests she is up in the mountains during winter time. The third teaser image has her in an open stretch of field in the midst of trees. Some sort of body of water, most likely a lake, is seen in the background. Finally, the fourth teaser image has Jessica Jung standing on a rock in the midst of a forest.
All four teaser images do have one detail in common: they all say “Wonderland 2016 December.” It is believed that the solo comeback album will be titled Wonderland or at least the title track song for it. We also know said comeback will drop sometime in December though it is not known when exactly. If Coridel Entertainment is smart, they will make sure not to drop Jessica Jung’s solo comeback anywhere near Big Bang’s K-pop comeback.
On a more personal note, it is possibly by mere happenstance that Jessica Jung would make her solo comeback in December during the winter season. For those who do not know or don’t remember, when Jessica was a member of Girls’ Generation, she was often called the “Ice Princess.” She herself said the nickname came about during an interview when she sat on the far side away from the camera and “expressed no emotion.” Her lack of emotion caused the hosts to call her an “Ice Princess” and it stuck. Eventually, the other members of Girls’ Generation would say she oftentimes looks emotionless during interviews though she is really loving and caring. And if there weren’t any other reasons why Jessica is the “Ice Princess,” she dislikes being in the heat and is often seen standing near a portable air conditioner if there is one nearby.
We will report any new teasers of Jessica Jung’s upcoming solo comeback when they become available. Using other comebacks of soloists and K-pop groups as an example, we should expect a full track list of Wonderland and a music video teaser of the title track song.
