Hyoyeon Solo Debut: K-Pop Idol Of Girls’ Generation Lights It Up In Teaser For 1st Solo Track, ‘Mystery’ [Video]
Around this time last year, So Nyeo Shi Dae (SNSD) — better known as Girls’ Generation — started to concentrate more on their solo endeavors and careers outside of being a member of the most popular K-pop idol group in Hallyu history. It all started with their leader, Taeyeon, who released the mesmerizing debut title track song “I” featuring Verbal Jint. She eventually followed up with four more songs spread throughout 2016, with the latest song being “11:11.”
Other members of Girls’ Generation would follow after Taeyeon with their own solo career endeavors. Tiffany pursued both a solo singing career with her debut album I Just Wanna Dance and being a cast member in K-variety shows in Unnies’ Slam Dunk. Sadly, she hit a roadblock early in her career in the form of a Japanese flag scandal, but that seems to have leveled out by now given the fact she’s featured in Far East Movement’s latest album. Sooyoung, Yuri, Seohyun, and Yoona, on the other hand, pursued acting. They were recently in K-dramas 38 Task Force, Gogh The Starry Night, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, and The K2 respectively. Finally, Sunny continues to do radio shows while holding her titled of “Aegyo Queen” on social media.
That leaves Hyoyeon. Unlike the other members of Girls’ Generation, it is relatively unknown what she will pursue as her solo career. Being a member of the newly-formed SM Entertainment and JYP Entertainment group Triple T is phenomenal, but it is still not a solo endeavor. That has now changed as Hyoyeon will perform her first solo track, titled “Mystery,” in which she is lighting it up in the teaser for the music video.
The teaser for Hyoyeon’s first solo track was recently revealed as promotions for SM Entertainment’s 43rd track song for SM Station, as reported by AllKpop. We do know it is titled “Mystery,” and the concept seems to be quite mystifying. Analyzing the teaser of the music video, its setting seems to be in dark venues, such as an abandoned warehouse and on the street at night. Fire and light seems to be another concept used for the music video, as Hyoyeon is seen flicking the cover of a lighter in some scenes and waving a lit flare in others. Given the fact Hyoyeon is the lead dancer, there has to be dancing in the video too.
It is great to see Hyoyeon getting more attention for her solo endeavors. Many Korean netizens believe she is the least popular member of Girls’ Generation, something that was detailed in KpopStarz. To an extent, that may be true given the solo endeavors of the other members over the tenure of the K-pop girl group. She only has two credits in K-dramas, and all of her K-variety show appearances are mostly on competition shows or talk shows. The only entertainment K-variety show most people can think of her being on is Invincible Youth 2 along with Sunny.
Nevertheless, the music video, along with the single download for “Mystery,” will be made available on December 2 on SM Station. Hyoyeon will hold her solo stage debut on Inkigayo on the Seoul Broadcasting System (SBS) the following week after the song debuts.
