Madonna’s Daughter Lourdes Leon Set For Superstardom
Normally, some would consider it wrong to do an article about a public figure’s child. However, Madonna’s 20-year-old daughter, Lourdes, is already a celebrity in her own right. Earlier this year, Us Weekly Magazine reported that Lola Leon made her modeling debut.
“The 19-year-old, who has spent much of her life shying away from the public eye, agreed to take part in McCartney’s latest campaign for her new perfume, Pop, because she approved of the message it was sending.”
The article adds that the campaign promotes self-acceptance and positive mutual support. It’s one of many campaigns we will see Lourdes involved in. Right now, the Queen of Pop’s daughter is attending the University of Michigan, just like her mother did in the late 1970s.
Lourdes obviously knows a lot about fashion. In 2010, she helped her mom launch the Material Girl clothing line, which was a huge success. The Telegraph broke the news.
“A new clothing range from Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes launched in the U.S. amid questions over the sexualization of teenagers. Material Girl, which was unveiled at Macy’s department store in New York on Tuesday, consists of clothes, footwear, handbags and accessories, including lace minidresses and sequinned hot pants.”
It’s quite possible that Lourdes Leon will have a musical career once she graduates college. She first showed off her piano skills when joining her mom on stage in 2009 for a rendition of Madonna’s “The Devil Wouldn’t Recognize You.”
She also sang along with her mom on the 2012 MDNA track “Superstar”
Lourdes also took the role of “Rizzo” in her high school version of Grease.
Those who grew up in the 1990s will remember that Lourdes Leon’s birth was a worldwide event. When Madonna announced her pregnancy in April of 1996, she was mocked, called a bad influence for having a baby out of wedlock (still a controversial issue in the 1990s), and people joked that her newborn would grow up to unhealthy since her mother is Madonna. Finally, on October 15, 1996, the Los Angeles Times announced the birth of Lourdes Leon.
“Entertainment superstar Madonna gave birth to a healthy 6-pound, 9-ounce baby girl–Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon–at Good Samaritan Hospital on Monday. The infant was born at 4:01 p.m. Madonna and child were reported ‘resting comfortably’ after the birth, as was the infant’s father, personal trainer Carlos Manuel Leon, 30,” reported the newspaper, adding that Liz Rosenberg, Madonna’s spokesperson at the time, refused to release any further information about the birth.
Madonna surprised her detractors by keeping her daughter out of the limelight. However, that wouldn’t last long. In 2003, Lourdes appeared as Madonna’s flower girl before the Queen of Pop’s legendary 2003 performance at the MTV VMAs.

Lourdes grew up in London with her mother and mother’s husband, Guy Ritchie, until the couple divorced in 2008. She has, for the most part, stayed out of trouble. In 2012, at the age of 15, she was caught smoking — but it was a regular cigarette instead of the weed Rocco was caught with recently. Lourdes has remained a smoker — that’s the only thing that appears to turn off her fans. She is supposedly a party animal at the University of Michigan, but also an outstanding student.
Lourdes Leon doesn’t have to worry about being accused of living in her mother’s shadow. She has been complimented for going to a public high school and attending a top university, even though she could have just tried to live off her mother’s fame. Ms. Leon has a couple more years of college to complete before we see and hear a lot more about her.
