JoJo Siwa Performs ‘Boomerang’ At Halo Awards, ‘Dance Moms’ Alum Never Returning To Lifetime? [WATCH]
Dance Moms alum JoJo Siwa performed her hit song “Boomerang” at the 2016 Halo Awards, which aired Sunday, November 27 on Nickelodeon. The 13-year-old reality star wore her signature pink bow on the Nickelodeon stage and sang about not letting haters get the best of you.
Dance Moms fans were clearly thrilled to see JoJo Siwa back on television again. The “Boomerang” singer shared that she had fun performing and hoped that the meaning behind the song would inspire her fans.
In an interview with Billboard, Siwa explained that “Boomerang” is meant to encourage victims of bullying. While she has never experience hate in school, Siwa said that she gets bullied on social media all the time.
“Every day people comment, ‘You’re fat, you’re ugly, you’re rude, you’re all this stuff, and I just don’t like it at all. I don’t want anyone to have to go through that.”
Six months since Siwa released the music video for “Boomerang,” the clip has over 116 million views on YouTube and counting. The video also starred her Dance Moms co-star Kendall Vertes. Although the response has been generally positive, some still criticized Siwa’s singing abilities. They held that Siwa was only given the opportunity because she used to star in a hit reality show.
“So many talented kids with amazing voices that can’t have a music video like this girl who doesn’t know how to sing but was in a reality show so she has the chance to do it, unfair,” one wrote.
JoJo Siwa and her mom, Jessalyn, left Dance Moms only a year after joining ALDC. Jessalyn decided to pull JoJo from the team after Abby Lee Miller insisted she do a ballet routine. Jessalyn claimed that Miller was purposely trying to make her daughter look bad. If she ended up losing the competition, she pointed out that it would have a significant effect on JoJo’s career.
“JoJo’s gonna be the next big thing. Her music video is out, her song is out. There’s so much other stuff coming out. JoJo’s branding herself. Honestly, JoJo has a lot to lose. I don’t need Abby bringing us down,” she said.
Jessalyn further claimed that Abby just doesn’t realize how big of a star JoJo is. She pointed out that everyone who meets her daughter told her that she has the potential to become successful.
“I am in California to make JoJo a star, to make her famous. She would love to be the next Kim Kardashian.”
After Abby insisted that JoJo do the ballet routine, Jessalyn decided to pull her daughter out of the competition. Kendall Vertes, Nia Frazier, Brynn Rumfallo, and Kalani Hilliker were all surprised that JoJo would just leave them high and dry. Brynn’s mom, Ashlee, said that Jessalyn has the reputation of leaving when things get difficult.
“Jessa’s solution to everything is pull JoJo out. She never forces JoJo to do anything outside her comfort zone. No wonder JoJo’s not doing any better because she just pulls her the minute something gets hard.”
After seeing the way JoJo deserted her teammates, Abby claimed that there’s no more room for the “Boomerang” star on ALDC. The Dance Moms star said that she set the bar higher for JoJo but instead of rising to the occasion, she chose to walk out.
“I don’t know what the future holds for ALDC. I just know it doesn’t involve JoJo,” she said.
