Carolina loses amist Delhomme meltdown
In the 2008 playoffs Carolina Panthers Quarterback, Jack Delhomme, had a six turnover meltdown that ended the Panthers’ season. Yesterday versus the Philadelphia Eagles Delhomme continued his meltdown and coughed up the ball five more times. For those keeping score at home that means in his last two games Delhomme has given up the ball eleven times. That simply won’t do.
This game got so out of control for the Panthers that Head Coach John Fox had to bench Delhomme, and since 2nd string QB Josh McCown has a sprained knee, the reins were turned over the third stringer Matt Moore, and a few others in the Wild Cat offense. Moore was ineffective, so Fox had no choice but to name Delhomme the starter for next week’s game versus Atlanta.
Many speculated that Carolina would go after a veteran free agent QB, such as Jeff Garcia, but word has leaked out that Garcia will return to Philly and fill in there. That leaves the Panthers short at QB should Delhomme continue to struggle.
It is really too bad because the Panthers have all the makings of a very good offensive team, if not a great one. They have a pair of running back in DeAngelo Williams, and Jonathan Stewart who can keep the chains moving and of course star wide out Steve Smith. If Delhomme can get his confidence back, and make better decisions with the ball they good walk back into the NFL playoffs.
