‘The Last Of Us 2’ Could Be Announced Sooner Than You Think
In June of 2013, Naughty Dog released a brand new survival-horror game called The Last of Us, and since then, fans of the game have been eagerly awaiting a sequel to the critically acclaimed title. Most believe that the announcement of the game’s sequel will come at next June’s Electronic Entertainment Expo [E3], but, according to a gaming industry insider who goes by the name of Shinobi 602, Naughty Dog could announce the game a lot sooner than people expect.
In a post on a gaming forum called NeoGaf, Shinobi said that the Last of Us 2 is confirmed, and that the announcement might be closer than we think, which got a lot of people thinking that the game will be announced at the PlayStation Experience event [PSX] which will take place on December 3.
Of course, Naughty Dog is already planning to show off the latest DLC mode — Co-Op Survival — for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End at the event, and they may end up showing a trailer for the game’s upcoming single player DLC, which is rumored to be coming out in early 2017.

If The Last of Us 2 isn’t announced at the PlayStation Experience event, then Naughty Dog may announce it at the Game Awards, which is scheduled to take place near the end of the year. Of course, the first Last of Us game was announced at the Game Awards back in December of 2011, so Naughty Dog may be looking to announce the second game at the very same show, five years later.
Naughty Dog did tease the idea of a second Last of Us game in the epilogue of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, by putting a poster in the bedroom of Cassie Drake — the daughter of Nathan Drake — that showed a photo of a pregnant woman, who many believed to be Ellie, and it was titled The Last of Us: American Daughters.
Shortly after fans began to discover the poster in the game’s epilogue, Richard Lyons, who is a concept artist for Naughty Dog, commented on the American Daughters poster by saying the following.
“This is The Last of Us: American Daughters. The poster was created as an in game asset for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. Also, I can’t elaborate on the narrative for this image.”
Lyons saying that he couldn’t comment on the narrative for the poster led fans to believe that it had something to do with the plot of the next Last of Us game. Some believe that we’ll fast forward ten years and that the lead character will be a pregnant Ellie, who will now be in her early-20s, while others believe that the pregnant woman in the poster is Ellie’s mother — Anna — and that the second game will be a prequel.

It’s hard to say what the game will be about because we’ve literally seen or heard nothing official about the project. But, Naughty Dog did do something similar before the release of the first game in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, as they put a newspaper in the game’s opening scene, with an article that talked about how scientists were struggling to understand a new fungus. Of course, the newspaper ended up being Naughty Dog’s way of hinting at their next project, which ended up being The Last of Us.
The PlayStation Experience event will kickoff on Saturday, December 3 at 1 p.m. eastern time. So, if you’re eagerly awaiting any news on the sequel to 2013’s game of the year, then you’ll probably want to tune into PSX, because it’s looking like Naughty Dog will completely steal the event by showing off the Uncharted 4 single player DLC, as well as giving us our first look at The Last of Us 2.
