Rosie O’Donnell Catches Heat For Promoting Barron Trump Autism Rumor, Are Children Off Limits?

Rosie O’Donnell has managed to do the impossible, moving sympathy away from herself, and toward Donald Trump and his 10-year-old son, Barron Trump. Even people who were previously #teamRosie have jumped ship after Rosie O’Donnell suggested that Donald Trump’s son Barron has autism. Fans feel Rosie O’Donnell should have known better after the dust-up over her own daughter and mental health concerns.

When Rosie O’Donnell recently had a family feud with her daughter, Chelsea O’Donnell, 19, after Chelsea ran away, Rosie O’Donnell exposed Chelsea’s mental health history on social media, says the Inquisitr. Chelsea responded through the media, and said she ran away because home with Rosie O’Donnell was “an environment of neglect,” with Rosie O’Donnell isolating herself in her office, smoking pot, and only feeding the children fried food. After that, Rosie O’Donnell threatened to disown Chelsea and cut her off. Chelsea O’Donnell has since left home for good and married a man twelve years her senior.

Rosie O’Donnell threw out a provocative statement on Twitter, “wondering” if Barron Trump, President-elect Donald Trump’s 10-year-old son with his third wife, Melania, has autism, says Fox5.

“Barron Trump Autistic?” she asked. “[I]f so, what an amazing opportunity to bring attention to the AUTISM epidemic.”

This has not had the desired effect, as Rosie O’Donnell has angered the autism community, as well as others who believe that minor children are off limits in personal Twitter wars.

Rosie O’Donnell included a link to a YouTube video that spread the unsubstantiated rumor that the 10-year-old shows signs of a developmental disorder. O’Donnell claims as the parent of a mentally ill child, she has a special kind of awareness to spot things that others would have missed. But even the more sympathetic fans are asking why O’Donnell would push a family to perhaps go public with something that is incredibly personal.

“sadiegirl ?@dogmom27 Nov 22 @Rosie but why call it out? If true they should disclose if they want.”

Rosie O’Donnell continued to double down, insisting that she was doing this in the best interest of the Trump family, and people with autism everywhere, according to the State. But parents, many of whom were followers of Rosie O’Donnell on Twitter, thought that outing a child who may or may not have autism was a low blow. But O’Donnell was insistent, even going after her fans who disagreed.

@Rosie I don’t support Donald at all, but the kid has copped a lot of cr*p in the media, my point is that he doesn’t deserve that.”

Many fans called her out not because of the autism rumor, but rather for the fact that the object of the rumor was a 10-year-old little boy who did not choose to be in the public eye.

@ParanormalNJ @jenheger @chrismacheras @Rosie It’s shameful to spread rumors about ten year old children.”

Another mother of an autistic child called out O’Donnell, saying that the parents of special needs kids should show up for each other, and not throw another parent and child under the bus. They suggested that O’Donnell was being spiteful, and using a child to do so.

The National Post says that Rosie O’Donnell is claiming that she only shared the video as “evidence” of the suggestion that Barron Trump is autistic. But many think that it just shows an overwhelmed 10-year-old in the spotlight for the first time. But O’Donnell insists that something about Barron Trump feels very familiar to “parents of children with mental health issues.” But many feel like children, even those born into celebrity families, are off limits, and just makes the accuser look petty. The argument is taking on a life of its own, as Rosie O’Donnell is using autism as an accusation as if it is some kind of flaw or something to be ashamed of.

“They’re going after a 10 year old. That’s what trash exists on the left.”

The overall sentiment is that if Rosie O’Donnell was truly concerned about Barron, she could have done it privately. Adults can argue, but dragging kids in is below the belt.

Do you think this was inappropriate of Rosie O’Donnell to go after a 10-year-old boy? Is it O’Donnell’s business to diagnose the child of another?
