Xbox One Wants Super Mario, Partnership With Nintendo On The Horizon

Will Xbox big boss Phil Spencer finally pave the way for Nintendo-exclusives such as Super Mario to arrive on the Xbox One console?

The Xbox platform has come a long way in terms of being pro-gamer, having achieved in the recent years a lot of things the gaming industry has considered taboo. One the most significant of these efforts has been the Xbox One backward compatibility feature, which lets the Xbox One run select games from the Xbox 360 library. Xbox One has also spearheaded the cross-console initiative, starting with the Play Anywhere feature that enables players to jump between games on the Xbox One and Windows PC.

But it doesn’t end there. Xbox Boss Phil Spencer is once again proving that he is on the side of the gamers and not of the makers. He recently announced, via Express UK, his desire to finally build a collaboration between Microsoft and Nintendo so Xbox One players can finally enjoy Super Mario.

In an interview with AusGamers, Phil Spencer answered whether Microsoft is open to seeing more Nintendo properties on the Xbox One, considering that huge Nintendo franchises Super Mario and Pokemon are finally moving onto other platforms such as the iOS.

“I’d love to see Mario on Xbox. As someone who’s been in this industry and played games forever, I’ll still say it: Nintendo has the strongest first-party of anybody. They’re just fantastic and the memories that they have instilled in so many of us, who’ve played their games and had those delightful experiences, having those on Xbox would be great.”

We have seen Microsoft’s phenomenal Minecraft on the Nintendo, so why not Super Mario on the Xbox One?

Spencer added, “Obviously we have Minecraft on Nintendo and when that opportunity came up to work with them on Minecraft, you know, some people might look at it and say ‘why would you even do that?’ But with Nintendo, it’s been a great partnership on Minecraft. In fact they put Mario in Minecraft on Wii U with the mash-up skin pack.”

Apparently, Minecraft really has paved the way for a beautiful and mutually rewarding relationship between Microsoft and Nintendo. In fact, Spencer reveals that Nintendo and Microsoft are still working together on that front.

At the end of the day, if a decision such as bringing an exclusive to another console would greatly benefit both parties, Spencer wouldn’t have a problem with that at all — in fact, he would encourage it.

“And continuing to work with them on [Minecraft] and building a stronger relationship… I mean if that paid dividends down the road that lead to something else, that would be fantastic. I know I get questions all the time on would I ever like to see Banjo in Super Smash Bros. and I’m, like, ‘yes, I would do that in a second.’ And certain people think I’m saying that as some sort of PR answer and I’m, like, why wouldn’t you?”

With Xbox One so excited about working with Nintendo, despite the substantial lead the Microsoft console has held above Nintendo’s units over the years, it’s probably only a matter of whether Nintendo says yes to Xbox One.

Revealing that he is a Nintendo fan as well, Spencer explained, “Anyway, I’m a big Nintendo fan and I think they’ve been incredibly important for the games industry, they do a great job with younger audiences, and if we ever had a chance to work with them in the future, I would absolutely do it.”

This is extremely exciting news for Xbox One players who don’t really have the means to purchase more than one console to get their hands on console exclusives. The console wars have gone for far too long, and gamers would only love to finally see a truce among the three gaming giants.

It’s a win-win situation after all. Releasing Super Mario on the Xbox One would surely rake in at least a lots of cash for Nintendo — and Xbox One players will be too happy to give it to them, too!
