Thanksgiving Day 2016 Hours: A Full List Of What Banks, Grocery Stores, And Restaurants Are Open On Turkey Day
Thanksgiving 2016 has finally arrived, and those with some last-minute shopping or other errands will want to know what grocery stores, banks, and restaurants are open or closed — and they can find a full list right here.
The annual turkey-roasting holiday can be one of the busiest of the year, with plenty of last-minute stops to the grocery store to buy forgotten supplies or searches for a good restaurant for those not into cooking. But with some locations open and others closed, planning out the day can be a bit confusing.
So, just what is open and what is closed on Thanksgiving 2016? You can find a full list below.
What’s closed on Thanksgiving 2016?
Because Thanksgiving is a federal holiday, all government offices will be closed on November 24. That means the Department of Motor Vehicles will be closed, local government offices are shut down, and there is no mail delivery from the U.S. Postal Service.
Those looking to make a quick check deposit will be out of luck as well. Time found that all major banks will be closed on Thanksgiving 2016, though noted there might be a few small exceptions.
“None of the banks contacted will have standalone branches open on Thanksgiving, though some branches inside grocery stores may still be open,” the report noted. “It’s always best to contact your bank before making a visit to the branch if it’s on any sort of special holiday, especially Thanksgiving.”
And most major banks — including Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Chase — employ smart ATM locations where customers can make deposits, check their account balances, or even transfer money between accounts. So they may not be out of luck entirely if they have a more simple banking task to accomplish.

Thanksgiving 2016 restaurant hours
For many families, Thanksgiving dinner is best served by someone else, so restaurants are a very popular destination among those not culinary inclined.
The safest bet for those looking to hit up a restaurant on Thanksgiving would be one of the large national chains. Restaurants like Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, Country Buffet, and Applebees will be open normal hours on Thanksgiving.
But they may find more unique fare and some local flavor with smaller or locally-owned restaurants. Chinese restaurants are also a popular tradition for many families and are usually open, but as with all of these, it’s best to call first to make sure they’ll be open.
