‘The Walking Dead’ Rumors: Chandler Riggs Headed To College, Father Hints He Is Leaving Show
One of the most polarizing characters on The Walking Dead is Carl, the son of Rick Grimes. Portrayed by Chandler Riggs, Carl is a very important person in the comics books but is someone that many fans seem to dislike, based mostly on Riggs’ acting when he was younger. Well, he may not be around much longer.
Chandler Riggs sent out a tweet that offered some great news for the young man. He has been accepted into college at Auburn. While that is two hours from where The Walking Dead is filmed, and it is possible he could do the TV show and college, there was another social media post that paints his future on The Walking Dead as grim.

Chandler Riggs’ father William went to Facebook and wrote a post of his own. That post was deleted and rewritten but Movie Pilot has the original post in its entirety.
“7 year contract completed! Grateful to AMC, Cast & Crew, TWD fan base and especially Chandler for always being 100% dedicated. Whether it was getting up at 4AM, working in the freezing cold past 2AM, leaving his friends and carefree kiddom behind, scrambling to make up missed schoolwork, he has done it without complaint and always made me proud & amazed to be his dad!”
The rewritten post leaves out most of what his son went through and just offers the fact that the contract is completed and offered thanks to The Walking Dead TV show and the fans for making it a success.

If Chandler Riggs leaves The Walking Dead, that could open up some problems for the TV show. Back in July, the Inquisitr reported that some people believed that Daryl might replace Carl in the storyline of being taken in by Negan and becoming hugely important in that storyline.
The comic books showed Carl getting into a truck and heading out to kill Negan only to be taken in by Negan. The two developed a close but antagonistic relationship and that continues to this day in the comics. On this past week’s episode of The Walking Dead, Carl got into that truck as well.

However, Daryl is still there. Could the fact that Chandler Riggs is headed to college and his dad saying that his contract is up mean that The Walking Dead TV show might kill Carl and Daryl will play the role that Carl did in the comics?
That seems unlikely since Carl dying at the hands of Negan or one of Negan’s men would kill much of the dynamic between Rick and Negan that builds over time. The TV show and comics would have to drastically change course.

There is one other option. Maybe The Walking Dead TV show could replace Chandler Riggs with another actor to play Carl. There is a huge time passing between the upcoming “Great War” and the future battle with the Whisperers. Would the TV show dare to replace an actor who has been around for seven seasons?
Chandler Riggs is 17 and got his start on The Walking Dead at the age of 10. Fans have watched him grow up, for the good and bad of that. If Riggs leaves, it might make replacing him almost impossible. His dad used hashtags in an Instagram post that read #freedom and #thewalkingdead.
The end for Carl could be near. Both Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus just re-signed their deals for The Walking Dead Season 8, and the longer the show goes on the harder it will be to keep the important cast members.
