Roman Reigns Vs. Braun Strowman Reportedly Could Happen At ‘WrestleMania 33’
Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and current United States Champion Roman Reigns has been in the main event of the last two WrestleMania shows. But, it looks like WWE is going to try to do something a little bit different with him at next spring’s WrestleMania 33.
While discussing the future of WWE’s newest giant, Braun Strowman, on the post-Raw edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that in the very near future, Braun will work a program with future WWE Hall of Famer the Big Show, and that program will lead to a match with Roman Reigns in Orlando next spring.
“Braun Strowman is gonna face Big Show next. They’re gonna do the ‘body slam challenges’ at the house shows starting in December. So, they’re gonna do that, and obviously Big Show is a setup, then it’s Roman Reigns. It could possibly happen at WrestleMania 33.”

Bruan has been portrayed as an unstoppable giant ever since he debuted in WWE with the Wyatt Family last year, and he’s essentially undefeated — other than a count out loss at this past Sunday’s Survivor Series— since the brand split. He’s also been going one-on-one with local independent wrestlers in short, one sided, squash matches, and he’s been asking for “real competition” for the last several weeks. So, he could very well get his wish at WrestleMania 33.
WWE has taken Roman Reigns out of the WWE Universal Championship picture over the last couple of months in an attempt to get the fans to accept him. So far, it hasn’t worked. But, that hasn’t stopped them from putting Reigns right back in the Universal Championship picture, as he’s currently scheduled to challenge Kevin Owens at next month’s Roadblock show.
Reigns was heavily booed at Survivor Series and on this past Monday’s Raw. So, if WWE is, in fact, planning a Reigns vs. Strowman match at WrestleMania 33, it’s probably for two reasons — one, they think the fans won’t boo Reigns if he’s in the ring with a guy like Strowman, whom most fans consider to be pretty bad in the ring, and two, because they think that Reigns will be more over if he stops the “unstoppable beast.”

It seems that two of the Raw brand’s top matches for WrestleMania are already set, as Seth Rollins will presumably wrestle Triple H, and Goldberg will probably have a rematch with Brock Lesnar. Also, it’s quite possible that Kevin Owens will wrestle Chris Jericho on the show, so that doesn’t leave any top guys on the Raw brand for Reigns to go one-on-one with at WWE’s biggest show of the year.
When Braun Strowman first arrived in WWE, it was rumored that they were building him up to wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania 32. But, Vince McMahon reportedly decided to change that plan because Braun clearly wasn’t ready to be in a big match on WWE’s grandest stage. Then, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that they were building him up to wrestle Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. But again, plans change. So, if he is currently scheduled to wrestle Roman Reigns, WWE could very well get cold feet yet again because Braun hasn’t improved all that much over the last couple of months.
If Roman Reigns wins the Universal Championship next month, that could be a good indication that WWE isn’t planning to have him wrestle Braun Strowman next spring. But, as of right now, Reigns isn’t the favorite to walk out of the Roadblock show with Raw’s main prize, so, believe it or not, we could actually see Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 33.
