‘Pokemon Go’ Update: Thanksgiving Event Happening? Niantic Expected To Roll Out Legendary Pokemon Patch Soon

Is a Pokemon Go update Thanksgiving event coming to players of Niantic’s augmented reality mobile game? There seem to be contrasting views on the matter.

Developers of the mobile game that became a worldwide phenomenon are reportedly working on a new update patch that most likely will include the codes for the rumored Pokemon Go Thanksgiving event starting on November 24 per a recent report from data miners who looked into the game’s most recent update patch.

According to a report from Slash Gear earlier this month, the Pokemon Goupdate Thanksgiving event will have similar specifications as that of the mobile game’s Halloween event.

That means that spawn rates for theme-specific Pokemon will have higher spawn rates during a certain period like what happened with Halloween pocket monsters such as Cubone, Marowak, Haunter, Ghastly, Gengar, and Meowth.

In the same manner, Slash Gear believes that the Pokemon Go update Thanksgiving event will see higher spawn rates of bird-type Pokemon like Fearow and Spearow, psychic-types such as Psyduck, Golduck, Slowpoke, and Slowbro as well as other not-so-common ones like Ponyta and Rapidash.

Walking as a form of exercise during the food-filled event may also be considered as one of the focuses of the Pokemon Go patch, per Slash Gear’s source.

Aside from that, there may also be an ease on the distance required to earn Candies with their Buddy Pokemon, which the outlet explained is one way of emphasizing friendship during Thanksgiving Day.

“Niantic may wait for Easter to ease Pokemon Egg distance requirements, but for Thanksgiving, friendship is key.”

However, the outlet explained that their source, “who was quite correct when predicting the Halloween event,” confirmed that planning of the Pokemon Go Thanksgiving event was not yet complete at the time.

Aside from that, there are doubts that a Pokemon Go update Thanksgiving event will happen. In fact, a couple of reasons behind this had been laid out by the website DidYouKnowFacts.com.

According to the site, a Pokemon Go update Thanksgiving patch may not happen because of the presence of too many events in a short period of time, which began during Halloween week.

“Having one more major event that’s available to all trainers could make events seem trivial,” the website explained.

“Waiting until a certain time during the holidays will give Niantic a chance to really plan out what a great holiday event could be.”

Furthermore, Did You Know? noted how having a Halloween event made more sense than one themed around Thanksgiving, considering the fact that the latter was supposed to be spent with family and loved ones and not out walking around catching wild Pokemon in the neighborhood.

Plus, there isn’t much Pokemon that can be considered Thanksgiving-types aside from a couple of flying-type birds like Pidgey, Pidgeotto, Pidgeot, Spearow, and Fearow, which are all commonly spawning anywhere, anytime.

Of course, Niantic could roll out the legendary birds during Thanksgiving Day, which will most likely bring the concept of the entire Pokemon Go Thanksgiving thing onto a whole new level.

A report from Express UK indicated the possibility that the Pokemon GoThanksgiving event will only be limited within the United States, which actually makes more sense considering that the holiday is only celebrated in the country.

But whether or not there is a Pokemon Go update Thanksgiving event happening soon, the latest patch Niantic is rolling out only includes issues with the Egg-hatching cutscene animation with other minor fixes, per a November 18 notice from the game developers.

Prior to that, The Pokemon Company has also announced the Pokemon Golaunch in parts of the Middle East, which includes Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
