WWE News: Goldberg Defeats Brock Lesnar In Under Two Minutes At WWE ‘Survivor Series’ 2016 — Are You Really That Surprised? [Opinion]
The WWE’s Survivor Series has pulled off what could be one of its biggest upsets of the night. And to be honest, it shouldn’t be that much of a surprise.
Goldberg is one of the scariest wrestlers of all time. This is no secret if you’ve ever watched him wrestle. For years, fans old and new to the WWE have seen the power of Goldberg’s moves. This is the same man that has placed fear in the hearts of iconic Superstars. At Survivor Series, this was no exception. If you thought that Goldberg would lose to Brock Lesnar, it’s safe to say that his past might have escaped you.
The lineup for Survivor Series was packed with great matches, but this one set the stage for both Lesnar and Goldberg. We’ve seen them dominate their opponents with ferocity and ruthless aggression. Lesnar is no slouch, having broken the likes of John Cena, Triple H, and even the Undertaker. With every entrance to the ring, you’re almost guaranteed a powerful performance. But against Bill Goldberg, the master of the Spear and Jackhammer finisher, Lesnar was shown that he should never underestimate his opponents.

According to Sporting News, the match between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg was finished in under three minutes. This isn’t the first time that a match between Superstars has lasted such a short amount of time, but it’s usually the more rookie challengers that get the short end of the stick. What was supposed to be a “slobber knocker” was nothing more than a show, with Goldberg delivering a set of Spear maneuvers to Lesnar before pulling off the devastating Jackhammer finisher. Goldberg’s age was brought into question, but he was able to hold Lesnar in a suplex-like hold for at least a couple of seconds before dropping the gargantuan wrestler to the mat. With a count of 3, Goldberg claimed victory.
Could this be the start of an even bigger rivalry than what fans could have anticipated? Quite possibly. The WWE’s Survivor Series has become more than relevant with Goldberg dominating Lesnar. According to Sky Sports, the safe bet was on Lesnar with his string of success throughout his return. Brock, known by many as “The Conqueror,” returned to the ring in 2012 and made impact with every match thereafter. The safe money was most likely on him, and all predictions pointed to Lesnar as the victor of the bout.

A report by Hollywood Life reveals that John Cena was rooting for Brock Lesnar against Bill Goldberg. Despite Goldberg’s win years ago against Lesnar, John was adamant about Lesnar taking the win. When asked about his predictions, Cena had this to say about Lesnar.
“Brock Lesnar! Brock… anybody! Who do I got? Brock Lesnar! People can see that individual on television and see him live,” John stated.
“I have been in there with him a bunch and I have been in there with him for 15 years. He hasn’t aged a second, he is still gifted, he is still athletic and he is still destructive. Brock Lesnar against anybody I would… I don’t know who is going to beat Brock!”
It’s obvious that Goldberg was underestimated. Despite his age of 49, the iconic wrestler has shown that he has what it takes to bring down an opponent as powerful as Lesnar. Only time will tell what will come of this quick match, as it’s a guarantee that Lesnar will be looking for a rematch.
