Gleb Savchenko Out Of Commission With Flu Ahead Of ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Finale
Gleb Savchenko has suffered a major setback just days before the Dancing With the Stars finale, and now fans are hoping he will be well enough to perform on the live show. The hunky pro dancer, who’s partnered with country singer Jana Kramer for the 23rd edition of the celebrity ballroom competition, has been hit with a bad case of the flu, according to People. A source told the magazine that Gleb “has the flu and has to rest up this weekend so he can hopefully dance on Monday.”
Gleb Savchenko has been unable to rehearse with Kramer during the crucial weekend before the show’s finale. Savchenko has reportedly rescheduled rehearsals so he can rest up. The People insider said that while Gleb can’t imagine not performing with his celebrity partner on Monday night, it will be a game-day decision based on how he feels.
Jana Kramer posted an Instagram pic of her ailing pro partner, captioning it with “One of us has the flu…well maybe two of us.”
Kramer later posted a pic of her substitute dance partner, Alan Bersten. The singer joked that she is “under quarantine” with Bersten while Savchenko rests.
Alan Bersten is no stranger to Gleb and Jana’s partnership. The DWTS troupe member previously filled in for Savchenko earlier this season, and he also danced with the duo as part of their trio dance last week.
If Gleb Savchenko is forced to sit out Monday night’s Dancing With the Stars, it would be the first live performance that he will miss. Gleb was forced to sit out a series of rehearsals due to a knee injury earlier this month. According to Us Weekly, Savchenko coached his partner and Bersten from the sidelines as he rehabbed his knee. At the time, Jana warned fans that Gleb’s knee injury was “not looking good” ahead of Showstoppers Week. Gleb posted a photo of himself wearing a knee brace and a sad face.
Of course, Gleb Savchenko isn’t the only half of this dynamic duo that has had injuries and illness to deal with. Kramer previously tore muscles between her ribs while rehearsing and was forced to go to a chiropractor, gets shots, and take high doses of pain medication. The singer told E! News that Gleb continued to inspire her throughout the ordeal.
“At the end of the day, it was his friendship and his confidence and his partnership,” Jana said of Gleb. “He was like, ‘We got this.’ He’s really inspiring me to keep going.”
Gleb Savchenko will no doubt do everything he can to ensure he is well enough to perform on the two-part Dancing With the Stars finale. Kramer has already teased that the couple’s finale freestyle will be the best dance they have ever done together.
“We have an amazing song and [Gleb] is going to choreograph the most powerful piece he’s ever created for the finals and I have no doubt in my mind that we’re going to deliver the best story and reach millions of people,” Kramer told Us Weekly.
Gleb Savchenko and Jana Kramer have been frontrunners on the current season of Dancing With the Stars. The couple is set to face-off against James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess, Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy, and Calvin Johnson and Lindsay Arnold for two dances on Monday night. The three couples that make it past Monday night’s elimination will be under pressure to learn a new dance in under 24 hours for Tuesday’s season finale.
