Two years after splitting up with his ex-boyfriend, Ricky Martin is ready to take the next step with his new beau.
In a sit-down interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show, Martin revealed that his new fiancé, identified as Jwan Yosef, is a conceptual artist.
They met right after Martin split with his boyfriend, Carlos Gonzalez Abella, back in early 2014. The former couple dated for seven years, and they have two sons, Mateo and Valentino. The split appears to have been mutual, and their statement said they would be forever “united by friendship and their shared experiences.”
In April last year, Martin guested at KIIS FM where he mentioned that he has since moved on from the failed relationship.
“I’m in a really good place right now,” he said on the radio show.
“I was in a relationship for seven years and I guess this is where I need to be right now in this moment.”
Martin also said that he was celibate right after the split from his former boyfriend. “You go back to purity right, you know what I’m saying,” he explained. “I’m open to a new relationship let’s put it that way.”
Martin and Yosef got together in January this year, two years to a month after the former Menudo singer and Abella split.
“He’s a conceptual artist and I’m a collector,” the singer said of Yosef. “I started looking for art, and I saw his art and I went crazy because I really love what he does, really original.”
Talking about his proposal, Martin narrated that he was very nervous before asking the question.
“I got on my knees, and I took out the little velvet pouch and instead of saying, ‘Would you marry me?’ I said, ‘I got you something!’ Bad.”
“I said, ‘I want to spend my life with you,’ and he said, ‘What is the question?’”
It seemed the proposal did not go as well as he first thought because Martin amusingly recounted that 30 minutes into their conversation, he had to double take and ask Yosef, “Wait, did you say yes?”
According to People magazine, Martin and Yosef went public for the first time during the amfAR Inspiration Gala in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in April this year. The press didn’t get a chance to ask the pair about the status of their relationship, but the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer did post a photo of them together on Instagram along with a single word caption, “Yup.”
The engagement is not surprising considering that the couple is already living together and the artist seems to get along very well with Martin’s sons.
Aside from his personal life, the career of the singer also got a much-needed boost as he will be headlining the 5,200-seat capacity Park Theater in Monte Carlo in Las Vegas for a residency. There’s no schedule yet for the residency, but according to reports, Cher, Stevie Nicks, and Bruno Mars will also perform at the stage when it opens this December.

The singer is still in the middle of his “One World Tour,” which will run until Dec. 15 in the Centro de Congresos Queretaro in Querétaro City, Mexico.
Martin also announced his Las Vegas residency on The Ellen DeGeneres Show .
“I have a residency in Vegas! You’re all invited!” he gushed. “Did I just say that?”
DeGeneres, meanwhile, gave two tickets to each of her audience so they can all watch Martin in concert. Aside from the tickets, the lucky audience members also received a complimentary two-night stay at the Monte Carlo.
