Kathy Griffin Says Britney Spears Is ‘Fragile’ After 2007 Breakdown
Kathy Griffin shared a bizarre story about her recent encounter with Britney Spears. Everyone knows by now that the pop star has been through a lot since her 2007 breakdown. Britney has since cemented her comeback with a series of albums and a successful residency in Las Vegas.
However, that hasn’t stopped Spears from having her share of critics. Kathy Griffin sat down for an interview with Larry King, as reported by Queerty. Griffin revealed that Spears pulled her onstage for her Las Vegas concert, but didn’t appear to know who Griffin was, despite meeting her numerous times in the past.
“I used to make fun of Britney Spears … Did you get the pinwheel eyes? You know what I’m talking about. She’s not all there,” Griffin, 56, told Larry King on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
King, 82, stared at Griffin and then responded, “So what’s your point? What are we talking about here?”
“I’m saying that I hope you were gentle with her,” Griffin said, “because she’s a fragile … sorry, I just wanted to know if you got through to her in a way that her doctors couldn’t,” she added.
“I actually appeared in her Vegas show,” the comedian carried on. “She has someone every night come up, and they put a harness on me, and I was her sex slave for a song that she sings called ‘Freakshow’ … I’ve known her since she was 16 – so I thought, at the end, we’re onstage, it’s a triumphant moment for really both of us. And then I thought, she’s going to want to say, ‘Good to see you again,’ and I say, ‘Brit, it’s so great to see you.'”
But their interaction didn’t turn out as Kathy as hoped. She realized that Britney didn’t recognize her and she took it personally.
“She didn’t know who I was,” Griffin said. “Then her gay backup dancer from heaven said, ‘Kathy Griffin.’ And she said, ‘Give it up for Kathy, y’all!’ And that’s all I ask, Britney.”

The 34-year-old singer kind of opened up about that dark moment in her life on Britain’s ITV. She admitted to talk show host Lorraine Kelly that she doesn’t like her 20s, according to news.com.au.
“I like my 30s way more than my 20s,” Spears admitted. “My 20s were horrible! [Being] in my teens was fun, but I like my 30s.”
Back in 2004, Spears married childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas, only to have their marriage annulled 55 hours later. That same year, Spears went on to marry her backup dancer, Kevin Federline, who she has two sons with, Sean Preston, 11, and Jayden James, 10, and divorced later in 2007. Spears went through a series of highs and lows thereafter and had a short stint in rehab. Her father James Spears and lawyer Andrew Wallet granted a permanent conservatorship in 2008, which gives them complete control of her assets.
“My 30s are great,” Spears said in that interview. “You know who you really are.”
Spears has been living life as a single mom these days. She ended her relationship with Charlie Ebersol in June 2015. In her recent interviews, Spears seems content with being single and is not set on getting married again.
“It’s okay to be single!” she stated. “I’m in a really good place right now. I’m loving myself every day and learning how I am. It’s awakening, it’s cool.”
Spears just dropped her new flirtatious music video for “Slumber Party” featuring Tinashe, according to Billboard. The two are seen cuddling with each other on the couch in just their lingerie before dancing the night away.
